Statement of Curriculum Intent
Work Based Learning –KS 1,2,3 and 4
At Shenstone Lodge School it is our intention to recognise the importance of Horticulture. It is our intention to get every child involved in gardening and to demonstrate the value of gardening in enriching the curriculum, teaching life skills and contributing to children’s mental health.
Through Horticulture we want to develop active citizens and carers for the environment and to show how gardening can contribute to a sustainable environment. We intend to build a Horticulture curriculum which develops cognitive learning, affective learning, behavioural and physical learning and social learning.
These skills are developed further at The Brades Lodge where pupils will experience ‘Work Based Learning’ lessons. The aim here is to provide valuable life skills through a wide range of learning opportunities that will enable pupils to explore the world around them and make positive changes to their own lives, their families and their communities. By developing their confidence in new topics using new skills and tools students will be able to pursue interests in new areas which will potentially lead to previously unexplored hobbies and career choices. By promoting the ability to attempt new tasks using new skills students will grow in confidence and develop stronger problem solving skills.
