Areas of learning English: We will be following the New English Curriculum for speaking and listening, writing, reading and grammar. We will be researching famous scientists, developing our speaking and listening skills through drama as we debate different scientific beliefs and thinking. Mathematics: The New Maths Curriculum now focuses on arithmetic which we will be practising daily. We will be applying our mathematical knowledge of measuring, fractions, decimals and percentages to recording our scientific investigations. Science: We will be studying life processes, habitats, adaptation of creatures from micro-organisms to large mammals. We will be setting up investigations, asking scientific questions, making fair tests and observing, measuring and recording our results accurately. Computing: We will be following the year 6 New Computing Curriculum with an emphasis on E- safety. We will be working collaboratively to develop a smartphone or tablet app, applying our computational thinking to the task of managing a complex task. Spanish: We will research Spanish culture, customs and history; as we celebrate Christmas – Spanish style with the arrival of the three kings.

Music: In music we will be exploring how sounds are produced and how pitch changes in relation to musical instruments and the human voice. We will also be composing and performing our own songs and raps. Art: In art we will be using viewfinders to focus on specific areas to enlarge and will be matching colours, shapes and patterns to create aboriginal art. Physical Education: In outdoor games we will be learning the team game – lacrosse. As a school we have considered very carefully what our children need to develop. We have identified six key areas which we have called our “School Drivers”. To ensure our drivers are at the heart of our curriculum this is what we are going to do this term. Independent Enquirers – we will research and present personal biographies, beginning this work at school and completing at home, Creative Thinkers – we will problem solve and ask questions during our science investigations. Team Workers – in PE we will work as a team developing our skills to play cooperatively. Reflective Learners – we will reflect on our learning setting new goals and challenges : aiming high. Effective Participants – we will be active participants in all areas of the curriculum. Self- Managers- we will follow the routines and systems in unit 4.
