• We all have a range of emotions; we need to understand how to talk about these accurately and sensitively • Everyone has a scale of emotions that all humans experience in relation to different situations • If you notice changes in behaviour, mood, feelings in yourself or someone else this could be an indication of an early sign that someone needs more support • Tell a trusted adult • Use the support services available in school • It always helps to talk

• We all need to learn to assess situations, activities, conversations on our and others mental health • Some situations are positive and make us feel happy, other situations are not as positive, we need to learn to recognise these and the right ways of doing this • We must learn to judge if our behaviours are appropriate and proportionate/balanced • Showing resilience and letting people help us when necessary

• Mental ill health covers lots of different areas and each can be to different extremes, it is different for everyone and seeking support at all stages is so important • If we learn how to recognise early signs, we can provide support early and, in most cases, this can prevent things getting worse • There are lots of people who are affected by mental health and so much support out there to help you • Issues can be better managed and supported with the right help if this is gained early enough

• Exercise releases endorphins into our body, chemicals which adjust the levels of chemicals in our bodies which may be assisting in making us feel anxious, low or upset.

• Time outdoors, fresh air and time in nature can all improve mental health, wellbeing and happiness • Community participation, voluntary and service-based activities can all improve our levels of wellbeing and happiness

• Self-care should be a part of your everyday activities, making time for you and prioritising activities which recharge you is so important

• Making time for rest, time with family and friends and for hobbies and interests which give your mind time to do things you enjoy is vital for us all • Mindfulness and grounding are incredible techniques for giving our mind time out, time to rest, breathe and recharge • A few other suggestions can be seen on the right but there are many more

• Make a list of things which would help you to gain a sense of calm • These should ideally link to the five senses • Should be things which help you to feel happy and calm • Use this list when you need to, this may be for 5 minutes, an hour or a whole day

• You are never alone; it is always ok to ask for help • Trusted adult

1. Choose your words carefully. Use language that will not offend or upset anyone.

2. When you give an opinion, try to explain your reasons.

3. Listen to the views of others and show respect.

4. If you disagree, comment on what was said, not the person who said it.

5. What is said in the online room stays in the online room.

However if something is said or a behaviour causes concerns, or in the event of a disclosure, we will need to pass this on to another member of staff.

6. Although taking part is important, you can choose not to answer a question or take part in an activity 7. If you’re worried about something that has happened to you or a friend, don’t share it with the whole group, but do make sure you talk to the session leader or an adult you trust after the session.

8. If you feel upset or anxious at any point, raise your hand at any time and ask for ‘time out’.

“There’s this girl and she got framed by someone in year 10.

Someone put a picture of her password and username on their story, on Snapchat, so that everyone can see it.

Someone must have, like got onto her Snapchat, took a picture, like off the internet. And then sent it to someone and said that it was hers. And then it went round the whole school and she got bullied”

For each quote, write down if you think the young person’s experience has been positive or negative, and the reason for your decision.

It’s easy to share personal information.

Please do not share your personal information online.

Some people might use this to bully others or to contact you and lie about being into the same things.

You may see stereotypes of how men and women should look and act.

Social media can portray gender stereotypes which make people feel that they need to fit in with what they see online.

It’s important to identify what’s real and what’s not.

Social media can give you the impression that everyone else has a beautiful body and perfect life.

People’s lives are often edited and filtered on social media.

Some people lie on social media.

There are lots of fake profiles on social networks.

People can pretend to be young when actually they’re much older.

It can be difficult to tell the difference between someone who’s genuine and a fake.

If you feel uncomfortable unfollow, block or report.

Report inappropriate contact to social networking sites and block the senders from contacting you.

Unfollow users if the content they post has a

negative impact on you.

There are support services to help young people who are worried about something that’s happened online .

An adult you know and trust.

This could be a your parent or carer, another family member or a teacher. They can help create a plan to stop the abuse.

Childline can be contacted via a call or online chat confidentially, about anything, 24 hours a day on 0800 1111.

Support for young people up to the age of 25. They have an online chat service, free helpline, and a text service.

A law enforcement agency which works to keep children and young people safe from sexual abuse and grooming online.

Young people can make an online report if they are worried about something that happened when talking to someone online (this could be another young person or an adult).

Summary, things to remember…

• There is an age limit on social media for a reason, please observe this • When you are old enough, only add people you know in real life to your social network • Be kind to others • Be kind to yourself • Be mindful of stereotypes and don’t feel pressured into thinking you must behave in a certain way • Block, unfollow or report things that make you feel uncomfortable • Tell a trusted adult immediately if things go wrong

• A sedentary lifestyle is a lifestyle that features no or little physical activity.

• This includes sitting, watching TV, using a computer, reading or playing computer games for most of the day with little or no vigorous physical exercise.

• Living a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to many health conditions and preventable causes of death.

• A balanced diet is ‘a diet that contains the correct proportions of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water necessary to maintain good health.’

• Look at the pictures. Can you identify the food types from the definition of a balanced diet?

• A person with a more active lifestyle will need greater supplies of energy and so will ‘burn’ a larger number of calories each day.

• A person with a sedentary lifestyle will need fewer calories.

• Ask your teachers, parents, older students, or a career advisor (we have them here at school!) about different option subjects. They can help give you information about courses, talk about their experience with the subjects, and answer any questions you may have.

• At the end of the day, you need to do what is best for you! Just because your friends are doing different options or your favourite teacher is teaching the option course you want to take, doesn’t mean you have to jump ship! Remember, no matter what options you take, you can always change your mind about your career in the future!
