Mrs Kathryn Quigley Headteacher
At Park Road, we believe every child deserves a warm, supportive environment where they feel safe to grow, learn and explore.
Our small school community is like family, and we place wellbeing and inclusion at the very heart of everything we do.
Our vision is to inspire confident and curious learners who flourish both academically and socially within a nurturing and creative environment. Guided by our motto, ‘Unique Individuals Learning Together’, we celebrate the strength of our community, where every child is valued as an essential and unique part of the whole.
Respect: At our school, respect means valuing ourselves and others, showing kindness in our words and actions and appreciating differences. We teach children that respect builds trust, strengthens friendships and helps create a safe, happy community where everyone can thrive
Persevere: At our school, we believe perseverance means never giving up, even when learning feels challenging. We encourage children to keep trying, learn from mistakes and celebrate progress, knowing that effort and determination lead to success.
Collaborate: At our school, collaboration means working together, listening to each other’s ideas and sharing strengths to achieve more as a team. We teach children that by supporting one another, everyone learns, grows and succeeds.
At Park Road, we are committed to ensuring that every child reaches their full potential. Our pupils consistently achieve outcomes above national standards, reflecting not only their hard work and determination but also the dedication of our teaching team.
We believe that every child’s learning journey is unique and we tailor our approach to meet individual strengths, needs and aspirations. High expectations, combined with personalised support, enable our children to grow in confidence, overcome challenges and celebrate success.
At Park Road, we are proud to offer a broad and balanced curriculum designed to challenge, engage and inspire every child. Our approach blends academic rigour with creativity and curiosity, ensuring pupils develop both knowledge and a lifelong love of learning.
We believe that children learn best through meaningful, hands-on experiences. Learning is brought to life through outdoor exploration, scientific investigation, artistic expression, music and high-quality teaching.
Our curriculum is enriched with opportunities to develop wider skills – from problem- solving and teamwork to resilience and leadership – preparing children not only for academic success, but also to thrive as confident, capable individuals in the world beyond school.
At Park Road, we believe that children flourish when they are given opportunities to lead, take responsibility and see the positive impact of their actions. We actively encourage pupils to develop independence and ownership of their learning, helping them to grow into confident and capable young people.
Leadership is embedded in everyday school life, giving pupils opportunities to develop confidence, teamwork and problemsolving skills. From eco-projects like planting and creating habitats for bees, to whole-class and cross-school collaborations, children learn to lead and work together creatively. They also build confidence through presentations and performances and can take on a range of leadership roles each year, such as Happiness Heroes, Eco Warriors, or Sports Crew.
Through these experiences, children learn that their voice matters, their contributions make a difference and that working together helps them achieve more. These skills not only enrich their time at Park Road but also prepare them to become responsible, active citizens of the future.
Academic achievement is only one part of the story. We also value the personal and social development of our pupils, ensuring they leave Park Road as well rounded individuals who are ready for the next stage of their education and prepared to contribute positively to the wider world.
Creativity is key in our curriculum, inspiring children to think imaginatively, explore new ideas and develop a lifelong love of learning
At Park Road, outdoor learning is part of everyday life. Children grow and harvest in our allotments, explore nature in Forest School and help care for our school animals. These experiences build resilience, teamwork and curiosity, while fostering wellbeing and a lifelong respect for the environment.
Forest School sessions run throughout the year, for all year groups, in our welldesigned and fully resourced woodland area.
Children explore, create and problemsolve in nature, developing resilience, confidence and teamwork. These handson experiences nurture curiosity and a deep connection with the natural world.
Music is taught weekly by Specialist teachers, giving children the chance to sing, play instruments and explore digital music. Our curriculum develops skills, creativityandconfidence, whileinspiringa love of performance and the joy of making musictogether.
Academic excellence sits at the heart of our curriculum. Children are encouraged to engage with their learning in a variety of ways, with a strong emphasis on active, hands-on experiences. We know that when pupils physically explore concepts and apply their knowledge in practical contexts, their learning becomes more meaningful, memorable and deeply embedded. Our approach combines high expectations with creative opportunities, ensuring that every child develops a secure foundation of knowledge and the skills to use it with confidence.
Children at our school are given rich opportunities to immerse themselves fully in a wide range of subjects, sparking curiosity and a genuine excitement for learning. From an early age, they are encouraged to see the relevance of their studies, developing an awareness of the many future pathways and career opportunities that education can open.
Every classroom has its own dedicated reading corner and mini-library, creating a cosy and inviting space where children can enjoy books every day. Alongside this, our well-stocked whole-school library offers a wide range of texts to inspire and challenge readers of all ages. The library is proudly run and managed by our enthusiastic Year 6 team, giving them valuable leadership opportunities while fostering a love of reading across the school.
Our children enjoy a wide range of enrichment activities throughout the year, including themed days like World Book Day and Rock Star Day. They also take part in exciting trips to places such as Farmer Ted’s, Liverpool Museum and Thurstaston Beach. In Year 2 and Year 6, pupils experience residential visits to Foxhowl in Delamere and outdoor adventure led by PGL, building independence and lasting memories.
We warmly welcome parents into school to share special moments with their children, whether at our popular Community Café or during class showcase performances.
I like Park Road because we do lot different lessons; one of my favourites is art. Also, I like reading and we have interesting books to read. We have a happiness bench and you can go there if you want a friend to play with you. We have lots of leadership teams such an Innov8 and Eco Warriors, where you can work with the teachers to make school even better. School helps me to be confident and know how to express my ideas and feelings.
Parent Partnerships
At Park Road, we are committed to supporting the whole child, placing emotional wellbeing and resilience at the centre of everything we do. As part of this commitment, all pupils take part in the NHS myHappymind programme each week, helping them to understand how their brain works and how to manage their thoughts and feelings positively. In addition, our teaching staff embed a range of wellbeing practices into daily routines, including mindful breathing, body scans and positive reflections, giving children practical tools to build confidence, self-awareness and resilience.
Our inclusive approach means that every child, including those with special educational needs, is supported to reach their full potential in a nurturing and respectful environment.
One of the greatest strengths of being a small school is our strong sense of family. We know every child as an individual and take time to build meaningful relationships with both pupils and their families from the very beginning of their journey with us. Parents and carers are true partners in education and we actively encourage open communication and involvement in school life. To support this, we use Seesaw, an interactive app that provides regular updates on your child’s learning and experiences. Families tell us this is invaluable – not only as a way of keeping connected with school, but also as a wonderful tool for sparking conversations at home about each child’s day. At Park Road, we believe that working together as a family ensures every child feels known, valued, and supported.
At Park Road, we believe strong partnerships with parents are key to every child’s success. Families are warmly invited to share in school life through class showcases, our annual Flower Show, sports day and whole-school performances. These events celebrate children’s achievements, strengthen community spirit and ensure parents feel part of their child’s learning journey.
Park Road, community is at the heart of who we are. We work closely with local groups, nurseries and businesses to enrich learning and to provide support for families. Throughout the year, we welcome a variety of organisations and visitors into school to share their expertise and experiences, while also taking part in local events that strengthen our links with the wider community. These partnerships not only extend learning beyond the classroom but also help children to develop a sense of pride and belonging.
Our calendar is filled with community events and celebrations that bring families, staff and pupils together – from seasonal fairs and performances to family cafés and discos.
These occasions are an important part of our school identity, creating opportunities for fu n, connection and shared achievement.
A key part of this community spirit is our thriving Parent and Friends Association (PFA). The PFA works tirelessly to organise events and fundraising activities that directly benefit the children. Their efforts have supported a wide range of initiatives, most recently the development of our Forest School and polytunnel areas. This provides all pupils with inspiring opportunities for outdoor learning, sustainability and hands-on experiences.
We are proud that our community is not only part of our name, but a living strength that enriches every child’s school journey. achievement.
