Seven Areas of Learning :

• Prime areas:

• Physical development, which focuses on fine motor and gross motor skills

• Personal, Social and Emotional

• Communication and language

• Specific areas:

• Literacy

• Mathematics

• Understanding the World

• Expressive Arts and Design

Playtimes

• Reception will have their morning snack in the classroom, they then have access to our own outside area to explore and play in.

• As the year progresses, as part of their transition to Year1 in the Summer Term, they will then go on the playground with other year groups.

• At lunch, children will go on to the playground with the midday assistants. There buddy will look out for them, and teach them playground games- especially in the very early days, when they are settling in.

• We use Seesaw to communicate with parents with regards your child’s learning journey in Reception, as well as using it to keep you up to date with any notices or information you may need to be aware of.

How you can help……

• Talk to your child about starting school

• Encourage them to be independent.. for example, tidying away their toys

• Practice their pencil grip by encouraging mark making in lots of different ways, and ensure your child can hold a writing tool correctly

• Ensure your child can get dressed independently and do up zips, buttons etc.

• Help your child to count to 10.

• Encourage your child to begin writing their name before starting
