Value of the half term: Friendship

Goodbye

Message from The Sports Crew
Hello!
Our final half term on the Sports Crew has been an exciting one! We have seen Park Road be tennis stars at local tennis festivals which took place at Birchwood Tennis Centre; Park Road gained Gold in the School Games mark; we hosted a great sports day and experienced different physical activities on our experience day!
Our experience day involved Ninja Warrior, Basketball, Yoga, Mini Makery healthy eating, drama and forest school. Everyone had a brilliant day, there was definitely a buzz around school!
We would like to say a special big thank you to Mr Savage for his support with the Sports Crew, especially at lunch times, and wish him good luck in his new adventures. We would also like to say good luck to our crew leaders Heidi and Eva as they move on up to high school.
Miss Mills will be looking for new members in September so keep your eyes peeled.

Have a fantastic summer of sports, Sports Crew
Battery Collection Winners
Congratulations again to Year 2, Mrs Quigley, Mrs Oakes and Mrs Wilkinson for collecting the most batteries again this term.

Sports Day Winners
Well done to the Vikings, who won the Sports Day overall by just 1 point! They had 198 points, Saxons 197, Greeks 188 and Romans 158.
Well done to all of the participants, we think you did amazingly well and we hope you enjoyed the day.
We are very pleased to announce that we have raised an amazing £10,030.38 but there are still some costs to come off the total.

Finally, I would like to thank Jade and all of the other PFA members and volunteers for their hard work and support over the last year.
Have a relaxing and fun-filled summer, Kelly

United Utilities Letter
Samuel K from Year 4 wrote a letter to United Utilities which highlighted the impact of plastics on the environment and on marine life. He asked a number of questions about how they are reducing the amount of plastic they use in their business. This was their reply ...
FAO Samuel K
Dear Samuel
The impact of plastics in our environment
Thank you very much for your letter. It is fantastic that you are helping to stop plastics from entering the environment. Here at United Utilities we share the same concerns you have raised and we have a plan in place. We track all of our waste, not just plastics, and we have a target to make sure we are recycling as much as we can.
We carry out checks on where we use the most plastic across our business – this could be in our canteens where our staff eat, our labs where we collect samples and test the quality of the water, right through to the packaging of things we buy. We’ve taken steps to reduce plastic across our whole business and we also meet with the other water companies to share good ideas about alternatives to plastic. An example is that we use compostable cutlery in our canteens and we serve coffee in paper cups. We are working with our suppliers and contractors to set targets to reduce their plastic use too.
At the moment our identity passes are made of plastic to make sure they last for several years before they need replacing. We encourage our employees to use refillable water bottles where possible but we do have some vending machines which have plastic bottles in – luckily our teams understand the impact plastic can have and recycling bins are provided for them to use.
In our business, we supply water to three million homes across the North West and we take away all the used wastewater to be cleaned and treated before being safely returned to the environment. We have special screens at our wastewater treatment works which stop plastics which have been flushed down the toilet, or from drains, going into rivers and the sea. These act as giant sieves, removing the plastic from the water, which we then dispose of. We know that wet wipes are regularly flushed down the toilet and many contain plastic so we talk to our customers to help them understand what shouldn’t be flushed down the toilet. Our advice is to only flush the 3 Ps – that’s Pee, Poo and (toilet) Paper and to put wet wipes, cotton buds, cotton wool, nappies, plasters, and all other bathroom rubbish in the bin.
Thank you very much for the invite to come into your school, we would really like to do that. In the same way, perhaps we can arrange for you and some of your classmates to come into our Head Office in Great Sankey so you can see for yourself some of the work we do to protect the environment. I understand you will be finishing school for the summer holidays soon so I will contact your school office in September to make the arrangements.
Keep up the great work championing the environment - our planet needs more people like you!
Yours sincerely
Catherine Booth
