Park Road’s Christmas Fun - Keeping the Magic Alive After what we are sure you will agree has been a challenging year for all of us, we want to create a memorable festive season for our school community by holding a number of events in the run up to the Christmas holidays.

During week commencing Monday 30 November, we will be completing our Trek to Lapland with a final run to the North Pole in school. Upon reaching the North Pole, we will be having some very exciting special visitors in school!

On Friday 4 December, a theatre group will be coming into school to perform a socially distanced Christmas Panto for each individual class. The pantomime will take place in the hall and will be repeated throughout the day to each class separately as we are unable to mix bubbles. As we need time to thoroughly and safely clean between performances, the hall will be needed all day and therefore can’t be used for lunches. This means that Carol won’t be serving hot meals but will be making special ‘Panto Packed Lunch’ bags for all children who order a meal on that day. Children will eat in their classrooms.

Christmas Continued...

Week commencing Monday 7 December, each class will be broadcasting a live festive performance and will be inviting their parents to join them virtually to watch. We will film and upload each performance to Seesaw so all classes will have the opportunity to see each other’s performances.

In the final week of term, week commencing Monday 14 December, we will be holding Christmas dinners in the hall for each class. This will mean some changes to our usual dinner rotas on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 December.

Details for your child’s class will follow nearer the time.

We will also be enjoying Christmas activities in class during the final week and are hoping that Santa will also visit at some point - socially distanced of course!

Christmas Decorations Request If you are refreshing your Christmas decorations this year and have any spare baubles, tinsel or other Christmas items that you no longer need, we would really appreciate any donations as we would like to create festive, magical gateways to welcome children into school!

Parentpay Please could we ask that you make sure funds are available in Parentpay to pay for snacks (whole school) and dinners (key stage 2) on the day that they are taken. We will send a text to let you know if you have forgotten to top up so if you do receive a reminder, please help school by topping up straight away.

If you are having any problems paying for meals, please do speak to us about it. Thank you.

Royal Legion Thanks Thank you to everyone who purchased our poppy items and supported the Royal British Legion—we raised a fantastic £451.64. The RBL sent us the certificate below to say their thank you.

Hot Chocolate and Cake Each week, the Midday Assistants select children for their good manners and for displaying school values at lunchtime to join Mrs Parkinson for hot chocolate and cake. Mrs Parkinson loves meeting the children and chatting with them while they enjoy their treats but unfortunately, she is not able to do this due to distancing guidelines so instead of joining Mrs Parkinson in her office, we are sending a hot chocolate and cake pack home with your child for them to enjoy at their leisure!

Foodbank Donations Don’t forget that we will be continuing to collect any items for our local Foodbank and our trolley will be at the front of school (except for Friday 27 November when the PFA will be collecting).

Return of School Photograph Orders The deadline for photograph orders is Monday 23 November (except for Year 3), if you aren’t able to order online and have not yet returned your order, please post it through the main entrance door by 9am. Thank you.

November/December Family Magazine The Family Magazine that is sent out every few months has now gone online because of the complexities of distributing it during the Covid Pandemic. As always, it is packed full of information about activities to do with your children, advice about supporting your child (and yourself!) and lots of chances to enter competitions. Coats Please remember to send in a warm, waterproof coat with your child each day as we have noticed quite a few children without a coat and the weather is becoming colder and wetter. As a lot of their day is spent inside, it is important that they are equipped to be outside during playtimes even if there is a bit of rain!

Class Books Last academic year, each year created a book that included work from every child in their class and parents/carers were given the opportunity to buy a copy. As we didn’t know how many people would purchase the items, we initially limited it to a purchase of one copy per child. As everyone has had an opportunity to buy the books, we are now allowing parents/carers to purchase as many books as are available in that class and when they’re gone, they’re gone so please be quick. The books make a lovely keepsake or could be a way to show friends or relatives the work that your child has done.

The books cost £3.50 each and can be purchased on ParentPay.

Christmas Cards and Staff Christmas Presents If your child would like to send Christmas cards to children in their class, they are able to bring in their cards on Mondays and Tuesdays each week from w/c Monday 30 November and post them in a class box, the boxes will be quarantined and emptied so that children can bring the cards home on Fridays.

We have also been asked if children can bring in presents for staff at Christmas so if children would like to bring in a gift for staff, they can bring them in on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 December so that items can be quarantined and taken home later in the week. Thank you for your help with this.

Recycling Bank Those of you with eagle eyes will have noticed our brand new Recycling Bank in the staff car park. The items that you can and can’t recycle are shown in the picture opposite so please have a look next time you have a clear out to see if you could recycle the items there and bear us in mind.

If you are able to donate items, please could you avoid dropping them off during the start and end of school as the car park does get very busy during these times—you are able to access the recycling bank outside of school hours too.

The school will receive funds for every kg collected and recycled.

Trek to Lapland Update Which class will be the first to reach 263 miles per group—are we going to cover enough miles to reach our target? Enjoy your walking!

Non Uniform Day in Exchange for a ‘Festive Themed Item’ There will be a PFA Non-Uniform Day on Friday 27 November where children can choose to come in their own clothes in exchange for a "festive themed item" such as chocolates, wine, crackers (cream cracker type and the pulling kind) etc...

Christmas Bargain Items Thank you to all of the parents who have purchased Christmas items from the PFA this week through the Facebook pages. If anyone would like any wrapping paper, napkins, small gifts or a limited selection of personalised tree decorations, please go to the school or PFA Facebook pages and you will find full details in our post.

Gin Gift Boxes You can still purchase these lovely Gift Boxes at £20 each - all profits made will go directly to Park Road PFA but remember the last day for orders is Friday 27 November (payment is required at time of ordering). The items will be delivered w/c 7 December. There is a choice of tonic or lemonade mixers in the boxes. If you wish to place an order, please email Kelly at kellyhpfa@gmail.com with your requirements, she will then provide a reference number and the bank details so that you can transfer the money directly.

Christmas Cards With Your Child’s Drawing This year we have changed the company that we use to produce the Christmas cards containing a picture made by your child. Children designed their Christmas cards and they were sent directly to the Christmas card company. The proofs are now available to view via an online portal and full details on how to access this will be posted on Seesaw. You can place orders and pay online with direct to door shipping!
