Curriculum overview for RE
Our RE curriculum enables children to gain an understanding of different religions and beliefs. We focus on four religions, which are revisited across year groups, with opportunities for pupils to widen their knowledge and understanding.
• Christianity
• Islam
• Judaism
• Santana Dharma
.
Half-termly units are taught through a key question. The enquiries in EYFS act as an introduction to some of the concepts underpinning worldviews e.g. belonging, special places, story, and touch on a range of world views. All enquiries encourage the pupils to develop their critical thinking skills, personal reflection into their own thoughts and feelings, a growing subject knowledge and nurture spiritual development, using a four-step model:
Step 1
Engagement
• Exploring the key question within the pupils’ own experiences, whether that includes a worldview/religion or not.
Step 2
Investigation
• Providing subject knowledge to assist pupils’ thinking about the key question.
Step 3
Evaluation
• Drawing together the pupils’ learning and their conclusions about the key question of the enquiry.
Step 4
Expression
• Revisiting Step 1 and own experience, to reflect on how this enquiry might have influenced own starting points and beliefs.
Both formative assessment and end of unit summative assessments inform our planning. Summative assessments are recorded termly and shared with the subject leader.
