Curriculum overview for PE
Our PE curriculum focuses on skill development from EYFS to Year 6 – previously taught skills are revisited and further developed in each year group. From Reception, there are 12 taught units per year with progression documents to support each. Within these units, pupils will develop an understanding of why physical activity is beneficial to our body and mind. They will also learn rules, to become team players, to take leadership roles, to referee and the skills needed to be confident and competent in each of the following areas:

Our curriculum supports every pupil to flourish and to achieve their personal best in PE, in school and in life. Each unit outlines the cognitive and creative traits that enable them to create opportunities, overcome challenges and make choices.

Both formative assessment and end of unit summative assessments inform our planning. Summative assessments are recorded termly and shared with the subject leader.
Our school is part of the Tameside School Sports Partnership. Through this programme, pupils are able to participate in a range of sporting events with other Tameside primary schools, including football, High Five netball, dodgeball and athletics.
