Welcome back to the school year 2024-25! It was wonderful to see the children's excitement and enthusiasm as they returned to school today, all looking super smart and ready for the fun that the new year will bring. Our Oakfield family extends a warm welcome to our new children and their families - we are looking forward to getting to know you all and working in partnership with you. If you have any questions about school life, anything that we can help you with or any worries that you need to share with us, do please let us know. We are here to help!
Food Allergies - IMPORTANT!
Please could I remind all parents/carers that we are a PEANUT FREE site? We have a member of our school with a serious, life threatening allergy, so it is imperative that, if you are sending food into school (this includes all packed lunch items) the ingredients are checked to ensure that there is no peanut content, or that nowhere on the packaging does it say 'may contain peanut.'
Thank you for helping to keep our school family safe.
The children all look gorgeous today in their smart, new uniforms! Please could I ask that you make sure that you have put your child's name in their uniform items? It is very difficult to reunite children with their clothing if it isn't labelled clearly. Thank you!
Attendance at School
Last year, our whole school attendance was 93.4%, which was below the national average of 94.5% for primary schools and significantly below our pre-pandemic attendance of 95.8%.
Coming to school is important - good attendance gives YOUR child the very best chance of success. It has a positive impact on your child’s learning and well-being, and is directly linked to raising achievement and developing skills for life and work. Please support your child by ensuring that they attend school every day and arrive ready to learn, on time at 8.50 am.
We understand that sometimes, your child may be too poorly to come to school and that they may need to stay at home in bed. However, if your child is just a bit 'under the weather,' please do try to get them into school - we will always call you to collect them if they are too unwell to be in school. Further guidance on 'Is my child too ill for school?' can be found here
Please be aware that we do not authorise holidays in term time unless the circumstances are exceptional. If you are uncertain as to whether your circumstances are exceptional, do please contact school to discuss this before making any bookings, as unauthorised holidays may lead to a penalty notice fine.
This year, we are aiming for attendance of 95% across the school. Please help us to achieve this by ensuring that your child attends school every day. Thank you!
Class Dojo
Class Dojo is a communication system used in school to share valuable information with parents/carers. We use it for lots of different purposes and it helps to keep home and school connected.
Your child's teacher will use Class Dojo throughout the day to recognise children's good learning and award them Dojo points, and they will check in to see if they have any messages from parents/carers at the beginning and end of the school day.
As I am sure you can appreciate, class teachers are busy teaching during the day, so they are unlikely to see messages that you send until after the children have gone home. If you need a quick response to a query or to get an urgent message to your child's teacher, please phone the office and speak to a
member of our office staff. Please be aware that staff do not pick up messages after 5.30pm or at the weekend. Thank you!
Macmillan Coffee Morning - Friday 27th September
On Friday 29th September, we will be hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning in school to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. There will be coffee (or tea!) cake, and the chance to have a chat with other parents/carers and members of our school team.
We do hope that you will be able to join us!
Learning Together Afternoons
Once again, we will be inviting parents/carers to join us in school for our 'Learning Together' afternoons this year. Over the course of the year, parents in years one to six will be invited to come into school for an afternoon to take part in a learning activity alongside their child. This year, our focus will be 'Wellbeing,' where we hope children and families will enjoy finding out more about how to take care of their mental and physical health.
Our first Learning Together Afternoon will be for Year 6 parents/carers and it will take place on Wednesday 2nd October.
