Each badge achieved enables pupils to access different privileges which are decided upon by our Academy Council – these have included using computers at lunchtime, eating lunch outside or lunch with Miss Wilkes for platinum badges.

Accelerated Reading

The Academy uses the ‘Accelerated Reader’ scheme to track and assess pupils’ reading progress.

• Pupils will take a ‘STAR Reader’ quiz at the beginning of the academic year to obtain a baseline reading age and ZPD (zone of proximal development).

The pupils will use these scores to select suitable reading books from the amazing range in our library.

Once the book has been read, the pupils then take the ‘Accelerated Reading’ quiz based on the book, which will then be added to the pupil’s reading profile.

Badges are rewarded for the 100% scores (or word count) that children obtain on reading quizzes:

For Your Information:

• Parent Pay and Edulink are our tools to communicate with parents.

• Parent Pay is also used to send out letters about trips and for you to pay for school trips and school lunches. It is vital you sign up for this, so you don’t miss out on any communication.

• Edulink is a useful tool so parents can monitor attendance/behaviour and to receive electronic reports. You can also email teachers directly.

Charterhouse Yr7 Residential Trip

In June next year we will take pupils to Charterhouse residential centre in the Mendips. Pupils will complete activities over three days and two nights. Activities such as climbing, abseiling, caving, archery, low ropes, giant paddleboarding, orienteering and power boat driving will be on offer.

Pupils stay for two nights in dormitories of approximately 8 pupils. Three cooked meals per day are provided. All activities are provided by highly qualified and experienced instructors.

Summer holidays

• Transition Activities have been published on our website. Please look at them with your child over the summer. It will be lovely to see what they have done in September.
