Edition No 36 22/23, June 2023
Mel Day is a Frome-based artist; she recently supported our year 5 pupils in the making of a colourful mural to enhance the year 5 block. Pupils worked to produce individual collage images to add to the mural, as well as working collaboratively on the final composition.

As you can see, the end result is vibrant and beautiful. Thank you to Mel (and to the year 5 teachers for their support).
During the last few days of this academic year please encourage your child to take home any clothing or personal belongings that may be at the academy.
Lost property will be available to claim during the first 2 weeks of the summer holidays when members of our Premises Team will be on site.
Thank you.

On Tuesday 27th June, the Wellbeing Ambassadors were joined by Jenny and Chloe from the Health Connections Mendip team at the Frome Medical Practice. They came to deliver the Community Connector training so that they, in turn, could train up parents and carers after school. This service signposts adults in the local area to all of the amazing services that are available to look after your mental health and wellbeing. Frome Festival Performances – get your tickets now!

These photos are from Saturday’s rehearsals of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Performances are next week – Wednesday 12th, Thursday 13th and Friday 14th July at 6:30pm. We will be in the Harmony Gardens, assuming the weather is fair –so bring a picnic and a festival-style chair or rug. Tickets are free (there will be a retiring collection) and available from fromefestival.co.uk. Not sure about Shakespeare? Don’t worry – our version is set in the 1980s and includes a great soundtrack as well as the classic comedy. We’re also planning a “Twelfth Night Taskmaster” section to help you understand the plot…and provide a more modern comedy vibe. We have amazing pupils from all year groups performing, with a different cast each night. For more information, head to the “What’s On” section of the Oakfield Academy website, where you will find trailers (nearly 1000 views this week!) and weather updates…

On Wednesday 28th June we ventured to Hugh Sexeys in Wedmore to take part in the Yr 8 Area Rounders Tournament. What an afternoon of Rounders....! The girls were tremendous. First up we played Selwood Academy. We played Selwood at home several weeks ago and unfortunately on that occasion we were defeated ........so the girls approached the game with determination. The girls batted well and in field were holding the score at 4 rounders each until the last minute of the game when Selwood managed to hit the ball and reach 2nd post securing them an extra ½ rounder and winning the game 4 ½ - 4. Some great bowling by Ellie Burgess who was named as the ‘Player of the match’. A very close defeat. We went on to play Fairlands next and won confidently by 8 ½ -6. We then played Hugh Sexey School and drew at 5 ½ rounders each and finally played Crispin school and with some great catches and great decision making won the game with 3 ½ - 2 rounders. Kizzi Tomkins had a storming afternoon playing at 4th base and was named as ‘Player of the match’ in all 3 of these games. Great attitude and effort by all girls involved and a massive well done to Demi Ramnarain, Ellie Burgess, Lilly Manaia, Daisy Hartland, Noa Patch, Kizzi Tomkins, Gabrielle Beattie, Issy McGruther and Natalie Keast.

Pupils from across the academy made the short walk to Frome Tennis club to enjoy some expert coaching as part of the Frome Tennis Festival. Pupils took part in small-sided matches and competitions, braving a few showers before the sun emerged for a final game of Kings/Queens of the court. A big thank you to Frome Tennis club for the invitation.
