Year 5 enjoyed a wonderful trip to Longleat on Thursday 15th June

Volunteers from Bath Astronomers made their second visit of the year to Oakfield. Thanks to glorious clear skies, pupils and staff from across the Academy were able to safely observe the structure of the sun, mind blowing solar flares, and sun spots using the 4 solar telescopes. Pupils in Y7/8 STEM Club also had a lesson on using spectroscopy to analyse the chemical make up of the sun and the work of Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin by splitting light into rainbows. Simon & Roger were very impressed with the calibre of questions asked by some of our pupils several of which had them stumped and were to a degree level equivalent! Are there some future Astronomy PhD pupils at Oakfield perhaps?

On Wednesday 14th June, our Flexible Learning Group visited Longleat Park as special guests of Frome Rotary Club—it was a marvellous day.

Thank you to all the Year 7 parents who sent us amazing emails and letters stating what a wonderful time their child had at Charterhouse.

The weather was wonderful and staff and pupils found the whole experience absolutely fantastic.

Baillie in 8N went to work with his mum who works at Bristol Rovers Football Club.
Baillie helped answer emails and saw how a DBS was carried out and how the Club save that information. Bayley also helped update the reminder calendar of when they need to be renewed. He spoke with one of the players and the CEO and asked them questions. He had a full tour of the stadium and held the Watney Cup from 1972.

Pupils in 7A put a great deal of effort into a recent History project studying Medieval times. Pictured are Emily and Maddie with a ride that they created for a Medieval Theme Park.

Well done girls—great work. History Teacher, Mrs Gardener was both delighted and impressed.

This term the Y7 girls have played several games of Rounders. On Wed 7th June we hosted Selwood Academy at home. There was some great hitting enabling us to score some brilliant Rounders and in field we took several great catches and showed excellent decision-making to field into bases to stump players out. We won the game 6 -3 ½. Special mention to Lilja Macleay for being named ‘Player of the match’ and to Milly Humphreys for some fantastic bowling.
On Wed 21st June after a hot walk up to Selwood Academy, we took part in a Y7 Rounders tournament against other local schools. Unfortunately the girls looked tired in our first match against Selwood and they took the win on this occasion. Hannah Puleston was named as the ‘Player of the match’. Our second match against Fairland ‘A’ team we batted more confidently and made better decisions in field and lost by ½ a rounder. Final score Oakfield 7 to Fairlands ‘A’ 7 ½ . Luna Psa-Treadway was named as our ‘Player of the match’. By our final match against Fairlands ‘B’ the girls had got used to the heat and perfomed superbly – great hitting in bat and great teamwork in field led to a win of 5 ½ - 4 ½ . Lily Vicary was named as ‘Player of the match’. A great effort by all the girls involved – Lily Shirvell, Maddie Harris, Hannah Puleston, Faye Chapman, Niamh Webster, Luna Psa-Treadway, Ruby Madge, Lily Vicary and Lilja Macleay.
