This gave pupils a valuable opportunity to experience the world of work and to understand what their parents doing for a living. BATH COLLEGE VISIT OAKFIELD ACADEMY YEAR 8’S

As part of activity week and our careers programme, Bath College came into the school to talk to our Year 8s about some of the courses they offer. These included :-

Hair and Beauty Vehicle Maintenance Theatre Make-up Animal Care Student Welfare.

Pupils were able to gain some practical experiences in stage makeup and aromatherapy and learnt what it takes to work with animals and as a mechanic.

A big thank you to the staff of Bath College who really engaged with our pupils and gave us all a very informative and interesting session.

Last term, our Wellbeing Ambassadors worked secretly on something called ‘Project Gratitude’. They discussed the concept and importance of gratitude, specifically how beneficial it can be on people’s wellbeing. Showing and reflecting on what you are grateful for, and sharing that, not only increases feelings of wellbeing for those that receive it but also for those who are ‘giving’ the gratitude.

So, knowing this, our group of twelve children put together a posting box with post-its and pens and postcards and spread the word so that other children in the school could join in too. We have a display board full of positive, anonymous phrases, quotes and notes about all the things they like and appreciate about people who work in our school.

What a lovely celebration of all the great things the staff already do! And who knows…maybe in a couple of weeks some people might start feeling the benefits of the simple, yet wonderful, experience of gratitude?!
