Welcome to new trustees!
Three new trustees have recently joined Oakfield’s governing board: Melody Hunter-Evans, Ian Phillips and Stephanie Stevens.

As a parent and trustee, Melody is keen to support parental voice within her trustee role. She brings a wealth of experience from her previous job roles in play work, youth work, teaching and children and young people’s participation.
Ian taught Mathematics in secondary schools in Wiltshire, Devon and Somerset for 40 years, working as Head of Mathematics at two schools. He also has experience of working within senior leadership teams, being a teacher governor and as a trade union official for the NASUWT.
Stephanie is a retired teacher and lecturer of biology and psychology with over 15 years’ experience as a trustee and chair of several charities. She has also been a school governor and a town councillor. Stephanie puts children’s education at the forefront. Her motto is Ghandi‘s “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
Year 7 and 8 were treated to a really interesting and inspirational talk from author Finbar Hawkins on Thursday morning. He spoke about his books Witch and Stone, and talked about how to create a story, focusing on character, plot and world-building. The pupils came up with some very imaginative ideas including a story about a mouldy potato and a stone-age Estonian called Steven!
Thank you to Finbar for coming along, and also to Tina from Hunting Raven Books for organising the event.

If your child has been inspired and would like to purchase a copy of either of the books, they will be available to buy on ParentPay until Monday 5th June. Mrs Milkins, Librarian

CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs Bryan, Mrs Green and Mr Fowler who were all recently awarded their National Professional Qualification.

Congratulations also to Mr Webb who will be our SENDCo next year while Mrs Ingram is on maternity leave.
We will also be welcoming back Mr Mepham who will join Year 5 as a Tutor in September.
Special thanks to Mr Martin Surrey from the Somerset Road Safety Team who visited the academy on Thursday to give an important talk to our Year 5 & 6 pupils. Pupils were shown a road safety video and were given the opportunity to ask questions during the assembly. Each pupil was also given a Road Safety pencil and ruler together with a brochure reminding them of the points that had been raised during the afternoon.

On Wednesday 24th May lucky pupils in 5C/N visited Stonehenge in Wiltshire. The weather was fantastic and pupils marvelled at the prehistoric monument in the middle of Salisbury Plain. The pupils walked around the outer ring of giant stones which each stand 13 feet high and 7 feet wide, weighing around 25 tons and topped with connecting horizontal lintel stones. A great day was had by everybody.

5A took a walk down to the riverbank in Frome town centre on Tuesday to wave goodbye to the 50+ baby eels (elvers) that they have been looking after and observing in their classroom over the past 4 weeks. During the project, the pupils have learnt about eel lifecycles, habitats and river health and have taken it in turns to change water, feed the eels and scoop out the poop! Following their release into the river Frome, the young eels are making their way upstream to suitable habitats, where they will live and grow, before returning to their 'spiritual home' of the Sargasso Sea in the mid-Atlantic to breed. When they reach maturity (as 'silver eels') they will measure over 1m in length. Thanks to Bristol and Avon Rivers Trust (especially our expert, Molly) for the opportunity to take part in this essential conservation project.
