On Friday 5th May 2023 we welcomed staff and owls from Sharandy’s Birds of Prey, Nr Chard. Each year group had the opportunity to listen to a talk and watch a flying demonstration by a barn owl who swooped over the pupils heads!

It was a fantastic experience with all of our pupils leaving the gymnasium saying it had been “amazing”!

We had a fabulous afternoon at the Somerscience Festival at Bruton.

Congratulations to Nancy Walter, Martha Riggs, Milly Humphreys, Holly Packman & Isaac Henderson-Finch, all 7S, who were awarded second place in the Somerscience tcs goIT STEM challenge for designing an app to raise awareness of and combat the effects of climate change .

They have done Oakfield Academy and themselves proud!

MR CURTIS

Please could we respectfully remind parents that the zigazg areas and bus stops outside of the academy are NOT to be used to drop off pupils. The reason they are there is to keep these areas clear and keep our pupils as safe as possible when entering the academy.

Please could parents who drop off pupils be respectful to our neighbours and park/drop off in accordance with the rules of the Highway Code. Patrols from Somerset Highways Department will take place and fines will be issued if rules are not followed.

THIS IS TO KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE

Statistics from the Department of Transport ;

- 71% of children that are killed or seriously injured happens whilst on their way to or from school,

- Around 55% of children killed or seriously injured during the hours of 8am and 8.59am or 3pm and 6.59pm on a school day are pedestrians.

- Child pedestrians account for the majority of child casualties; pedestrians 69%, car occupants 14%, pedal cyclists 14 %, other 3%

- The third highest contributory factor contributing to child pedestrian casualties are due to crossing a road masked by a stationary or parked vehicle.

Please please, please do not make an Oakfield pupil part of these statistics

Thank you for your support and co-operation Mrs Wells. Senior Leadership Team

Special thanks to the Airambulance, ambulance and paramedic crews who attended an incident at the academy this week. A huge get well and wishes for a speedy recovery to our brave pupil.

On Thursday, Mr Hood from Frome College came in to introduce post 16 options as part of our careers programme. We were impressed with the year 7s listening skills and the thoughtful questions they asked.

To Morrisons Supermarket in Westbury who very kindly made a generous donation to our SATS breakfasts, we are extremely grateful.
