YEAR 8 MENDIP NETBALL TOURNAMENT

We have been lucky enough to have a very popular KS3 Netball Club this year. In Year 8, we've had 20 pupils attending the Club weekly. This is a great position to be in but also a difficult one, as everyone wanted to be able to play in The Year 8 Mendip Netball Tournament. For the first time, we were able to take 2 teams, which meant everyone could be involved.

In the last week of term, we took 16 pupils to Fairlands School in Cheddar for their Year 8 Tournament. However we were unlucky with the weather for our netball tournaments this year. Again, the rain came down and by the end it was torrential. Our teams were resilient and played to the end. Team 2 came 2nd in their pool playing against Selwood and Hugh Sexeys. They played each team twice to get their final result. Team 1 came 1st in their pool playing against 5 other Schools. They won all their games with scorelines: 7-2, 5-2, 4-2 and 3-2. Our teams showed some excellent play with strong defence, as well as shooting. The big difference to all players was in their determination to gain possession of the ball and their teamwork was excellent.

It was a great experience for all and the teams deserve huge congratulationsGabrielle Beattie, Ellie Burgess, Sophia Giorgetti-Knott, Logan Hallybone, Daisy Hartland, Rosa-Belle Hartley, Georgie Hutchinson, Lara Johnson, Natalie Keast, Isabelle McGruther, Noa Patch, Demi Ramnarain, Anna Symes, Kizzi Tomkins, Freya Walters, Ellie White.

Mr Webb’s class 5A were delighted to receive this card from King Charles, as a thank you for the condolence card that they sent him following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

CONGRATULATIONS to all Year 8 pupils who have so far used one of our new common rooms. The rooms are a place where Year 8s can go at lunchtime to eat, use their phones and generally ‘chill’.

If pupils wish to bring a ball to school, kindly remember they should be in a bag. Thank you.

Pupils’ behaviour has been really good.

Parental Engagement

We have been reviewing what opportunities are available for you as parents to engage with us as an academy. We are always looking for more opportunities to engage with parents, if you would like to make a suggestion to add to the existing opportunities, then please email Mrs Thomas directly on

Our KS3 STEM club recently entered the ‘Steps into STEM SomerScience festival challenge’ designing an app to raise awareness of Climate Change.

Pupils worked really hard on their designs and I am incredibly proud of their initiative and the creative ideas they came up with.

If you would like to come along to support our pupils at SomerScience– it takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 1st May 2023. A free of charge and family friendly event in Castle Cary and Bruton. More information below:-

WINNING PHOTOGRAPH

Congratulations to Edison West in 5O who recently won the Junior Section of Frome’s Young Photographers competition organised by the Rotary Club. The category of this competition was ‘beauty of architecture’ and Edison took a photograph of some concrete acorns attached to a building in Bath.

Edison is pictured with Margaret Gilmour from the Rotary Club, and his father.

Haynes Motor Museum recently needed volunteers for a promotional photo/video, being filmed on Friday 14th April. Numerous shots were taken around the Museum, including making lego model cars, inspired by their fabulous collection.

What an amazing experience!

A very special thank you once again to Frome Town Rotary for a generous donation of £304 to pay for transport for some pupils to attend equine therapy, we are extremely grateful.
