YEAR EIGHT REGGAE PROJECTS 2023 Huge congratulations to so many of our Year 8s for all their hard work in producing some amazing projects as part of their music unit on Reggae Music. This year it was so incredibly difficult to choose winners. The standard was so high and there were so many original ideas for presentation. The 2023 winners are as follows:Alice Rochfort 8R (most artistic) Savannah Prall and Freya Keirl 8N (most artistic runners up) Elle Corcoran 8C and Edwin Davies 8N (best overall project) Daisy Hartland 8N (runner up) Runners-up who also produced some excellent projects are:Ellie Burgess, Robert Elliott, Demi Ramnarain, Jude Langsford, Fay Rogers, Dora Dicks, James Ellingham, Seth Leak, Timo Muller-Wilson, Rosa-Belle Hartley, Alby Hewitt-Grainger, Natalie Keast, Isabelle McGruther, Abi Merrill, Scott Salmon,Max Barraclough and Toby Durston.

On Saturday 18th March Oakfield Academy hosted a CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) Screening Day for hidden heart conditions. The team consisted of one doctor, one electrocardiogram doctor, a screening manager, a registration secretary and a van driver! In total 97 young people were screened, the appointments started at 9am and finished at 4pm.

Shirley Wort has been fundraising for CRY (Julian Wort Memorial Fund) for the last 22 years, and has raised over £50,000. Julian attended Oakfield Academy together with his sister Debbie. Cry have funded 5 screening days in total (3 of those being held at Oakfield Academy, and donated 2 ECG machines and 2 Defibrillators to Frome Health Centre and Hospital.

Shirley said “We are so grateful to Oakfield Academy for allowing us to use the facilities for the screening days and of course to Simon Millard your Premises Manager for all his help, nothing is too much trouble for him”.

Everyone at Oakfield Academy wishes Shirley and her husband well for the future.

Message from Mrs Pinches As you may know, I am struggling with Long Covid.

After a lot of thought and advice, it has become clear that I need to prioritise my health. I am therefore taking the summer term away from Oakfield to do this. Ms Evans-Bentley, who knows Oakfield well and has already met many of the pupils, will be covering the majority of my class.

I would like to say a big thank –you for all the messages and good wishes from parents and pupils, which are very kind and much appreciated. I am very much looking forward to returning, firing on all cylinders in September—and in the meantime, I will still be looking after Shakespeare Club—which I am sure will be brilliant occupational therapy!

Thank you to Mr Alex Hooper (AKA Dr Bike) for his expertise on Tuesday giving pupils’ bikes an MOT as part of the Frome Town Council’s BIG WALK AND WHEEL CHALLENGE.

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to six of our Year 7 pupils who play for Frome Town United U12s as this week they won their league! They wrapped it up with 3 games to spare—played 13, won 13! An outstanding achievement against some very good teams.

These fantastic photos were taken during 1:1 sessions in our Library. Alex Foster created a house and swimming pool using Lego and presented it to Ms Schiffer. Alex used pink Lego to match Ms Schiffer's cardigan. Fantastic Alex!

Several pupils enjoyed playing Bingo with Mrs Woods and Mrs Foulger.
