Year 1 Summer– Plants

What do plants need to grow?

In the next session, we identified parts of a plant and what their functions are. Children expressed their prior knowledge of plant parts and functions.

What do we know and what do we want to know? Children began with the opportunity to develop their own questions about plants. All children then went on a plant hunt to see what plants they could find in Oakdene surroundings. We then drew our plants and found out their names to label them.

Children investigated what plants need to grown by growing plants in different environments inside and outside the classroom. Children then predicted and recorded the results of their investigation.

Investigation of how plants transport water. Children took part in an experiment to see how the water is transported around the plant by the stem.
