Reception Wedding 2022 We listened to the story of ‘Aalfred and Aalbert’ and talked about the meaning of ‘happy ending’ and living ‘happy ever after’. Some of us said, “They will live together now!” and others thought, “They need to get married and have a wedding!” We decided that we would help them to plan a wedding and get married.
We made invitations and posted them in our ‘post box’. We thought about who we would want at a wedding (mammy, daddy, nana, friends…)
Whilst thinking about weddings, we realised Aalfred and Aalbert were aardvarks; we didn’t know if they were girls or boys. We talked about same-sex marriages and what this meant (“It’s ok if a boy wants to marry a boy and a girl wants to marry a girl…” We realised that all of our families are different and this should be celebrated.
We held our own special Oakdene wedding and we had a wonderful time with Mrs ‘Reverend’ Rowe!
We made our own handmade gifts for our friends, Aalfred and Aalbert. We listened to the story ‘Julian at the Wedding’. The story features a same-sex marriage and encourages acceptance, friendships, self-confidence and a party of love!
Afterwards, we had our wedding party, filled with food, dancing, friends and cake! We had such a fun time learning about marriage and weddings! Articles: 7, 13, 14 and 30 EYFS Links: UTW

We loved looking at all of the beautiful illustrations on the pages. We could remember and talk about features of weddings such as brides, flowers, food, party, and cake!
