Nursery

Physical Development; Gross Motor We develop our skills through a range of movements such as climbing, balancing, riding, skipping and Through a range of activities both inside and outside, we develop a preference for a dominate hand

Physical Development; Fine Motor We use one handed tools to develop the strength in our hands for writing. We use a wide range of mark making resources, scissors, tongs and threading activities. Activities where we need to use a pincer grip to pick up or manipulate objects

develops a tripod pencil grip for writing.

We become more independent by being able to put our own coat and shoes on and then fastening them

hoping, We use alternative feet to climb, we develop ball control skills and join in with activities such as Yoga and Squiggle While We Wiggle.

Mighty Warriors;

Our weekly Mighty Warriors sessions helps us to; - develop our ability to hold a pose.

- improve overall body strength, coordination, balance and agility.

We have started to use resources that help us to throw, catch, pass and kick.

We are trying hard to become more independent!

- use core muscles to achieve a good posture.

Physical Development; Fine Motor We have been practising; - using one-handed tools such as paintbrushes and scissors with good control.

- using a comfortable grip with good control when holding pens and pencils.

Physical Development; Gross Motor We have been demonstrating our gross motor through a range of activities; - superhero superpowers!

- using large paper to strength our large muscle movements.

- building obstacle courses; managing larger items and collaborating with others to move them.

We can handle tools competently and safely.

Physical Development; Gross Motor We have used our outdoor spaces in school to develop our gross motor skills.

We used the ‘Active Playground’ to practise activities that helped us to develop our balance, coordination and agility.

We were able to move competently and with confidence.

Year 1 Spring Term - Dance Let’s Move! This term is was time to learn how to create a dance and find a rhythm. We started and ended every lesson with a warm up and a cool down before building up week after week to a 4 minute dance sequence.

We learned how to count in our head while dancing to keep to the beat.

We built our sequence from 1 to 2, then 4 and finally 8 parts.

We stayed in time to the rhythm of the music and kept to the beat to work as a team.

Time to perform and record!

We performed the full routine to the other group and videoed it to share with our parents. It was great fun to share what we had been doing in PE. The children chose a chart topping song to build their sequence to. It quickly became a favourite for everyone!

Year 2 Spring Term

Dance — Jack Frost & Antarctica

In the Spring Term we followed the move to movement programmes

Let’s Move — Jack Frost & Time to Move — Antarctica In programme one we met Jack Frost and moved using icy jagged shapes

In the programmes about Antarctica we explored ‘The Coldest Place on Earth’ We danced like icebergs bobbing along and breaking up in the icy ocean.

We moved like the Emperor penguins that live there, in

In programme two we explored ‘Creatures in the Snow’

‘Icebergs and Emperors’ and ‘Penguin Parents’

In programme three ‘Let’s Make a Snowman’ we worked collaboratively to build a snowman

Year 2 Summer Term

Gymnastics — Under the Sea We started and ended every lesson with a warm up and a cool down.

To begin we learnt three different kinds of balances:Anchor

In every lesson we learnt a new skill,

Rock Shell We perfected each balance and then created a short sequence by joining each balance with a travelling movement.

Next we learnt different types of rolls

In session four we learnt how to jump and land safely.

Then we worked with a partner to help them improve their jumps.

Finally we put all the skills we had learnt together to make a sequence, making sure our movements linked smoothly together and we had a great start and finish position.

Year 3

Autumn Term This term our second PE topic was Dance.

This term our first PE topic was Handball Children were introduced to passing and receiving in order to keep possession of the ball.

We looked at some of the rules in handball, including no dribbling and staying still when in possession of the ball.

Children practiced these skills by seeing how many gates they could pass through.

Children focused on using passing and moving skills (creating space) to keep possession. We also explored the transition between attack and defence.

Children explored how to respond to different stimuli being able to add drama and emotion to dance. They then built on their work in a different context creating motifs. We built on our movements with a partner to create an extended sequence.

Year 3

Summer Term

During this term our first PE Topic was Communication and Tactics.

Children identified what makes an effective team. Over the weeks they focused on numerous team skills and qualities including, creating tactics, collaboration and communication .

Children applied these to different team games.

During this term our second PE Topic was Athletics.

We explored how we can use our bodies to run as fast as possible. We used the correct sprinting technique, exploring the position of our head and hands.

We then applied our understanding of running for speed, when part of a team.

We explored relay techniques and tactics.

Children also explored the difference between throwing for accuracy and for distance.

In the final lesson, we identified how we can use our bodies to jump as far as possible.

Year 4 - Autumn 1 - Basket Ball This term in PE we have been learning to play Basket Ball. Each week we learnt a new skills before putting them together to have a match.

After learning the basic skills of passing and dribbling, we started to put some of these skills together to work towards shooting at the hoop. We completed a drill in which he had to pass the ball down the line towards the goal before the person at the end had to shoot.

To begin, we practised dribbling the ball. We worked in groups in a circle to dribble to the centre and then pivot to change direction before dribbling back to our place in the circle It was then time for some teamwork.

We repeated the passing game but this time in teams, both passing and shooting towards the opposite nets. We then added in some defenders for an extra challenge.

Through the half term, we did a lot of practise using different passing techniques, including chest passes, bounce passes and shoulder passes. By the end of the half term, we were all experts.

To improve our aim when passing, enjoyed playing some games of piggy in the middle.

Year 4 - Spring 2 and Summer 1 - Rounders This term in PE we have been learning to play Rounders. Each week we learnt a new skill that was crucial for a game of Rounders.

To begin, children practised their overarm and underarm throw. We discussed which throw was best for long distance and which was best for short distance.

We then looked at the four bases in a game of rounders and introduced fielders and ‘batters’.

Children threw the ball and fielders had to return the ball to people on the base, passing in a full circle.

Next, we introduced the roll of a bowler. Children practised bowling to each other in pairs, aiming to get the ball into the others ‘box’.

From here, we put the skills that we had learnt together to play a mini game of rounders.

Children used their knowledge from previous PE lessons to play a successful game.

Year 5 Spring Term— Danish Longball & Volleyball

Year 5 learnt how to play Danish longball this term. They learnt the different rules and positions and developed passing, catching and defending skills. Children also learnt how to keep score and referee the game.

Year 5 learnt how to play Volleyball in Spring 2. We practised getting the ball over the net, working in teams and the different positions on a volleyball team. We learnt the different ways to pass a volleyball.

Year 5 Summer Term—Athletics & Orienteering The children have been learning the skills they need for orienteering during summer term. Their PE lessons have focused on skills such as reading map symbols, team work, stamina and using a compass and a map to navigate around school.

The children have been learning different athletics events in PE, they then took part in an athletics event at the sports Village in Middlesbrough against other schools in Stockton. The events included sprint, hurdles, 600m and relay for the track events and long jump. Triple jump, chest pass and cricket ball throw for the field events.

Year 6 Autumn Invasion Games—Rugby Year 6 learnt how to play Tag Rugby.

They developed passing and catching skills and learnt Team work. After playing games within their own year group they also took part in a Billingham Schools Tag Rugby Tournament.

In Autumn 2, we created dances linked to our topic of Scotland. We watched traditional Scottish Ceilidh dances and then used the style and the moves to create our own sequences.

Year 6 Netball—Spring

Year 6 learnt how to play Netball this term.

They learnt the different rules and positions and developed passing, catching and defending skills. They also practised aiming and shooting at a net.

After practising at school and playing tournaments in their year group, a team went to Northfield to take part in a tournament.
