English:
In English, we are using a range of books linked to the Monarchy. We will use the texts to develop our writing skills. We will focus on spelling, grammar and punctuation this half term. The children will create their own story based in London using their history learning to support them.
Science:
Maths:
In Maths this half term, we will be learning about time, charts and diagrams and directions. We will begin by learning to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes. After that we will begin creating different ways to show data. Finally we will revisit some of the topics from the year ready for next year.
PE:
Year 2 Half-term 6:
Meet the Royals’
In science this half term we will have some very special visitors! We will recap our topic of ‘life cycles’ whilst creating a butterfly diary from observing the butterflies in our classroom.
Art & Design: In Art this term we will be looking at the architecture of London. We will focus on the iconic London landmarks and their purpose. We will begin to create our own models of a London landmark and turn our classroom into a showcase representing London.
In PE this half term we have 2 sessions of PE lead by our PE Coach and Miss Gwynne. We are focussing on the 7 fundamental skills and putting these into games. This half term we also have the opportunity to take part in a weekly dance session with a coach to supplement our normal PE lesson.
Music:
This half term, we will recap our favourite songs that we have learnt in year 2. We will build discussion and opinions on the songs using technical vocabulary. We will go on a magical journey learning new songs to perform and using the musical instruments.
History:
In History this half term we are looking at the monarchs of the United Kingdom. We will learn about Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II ,Henry VII and his 6 wives and King Charles III.
Computing:
This half terms unit of work is called Unit 2.7 making music. We will use the program on Purple Mash.
We will also finish our previous unit of Unit 2.6 Creating Pictures. RE:
Our year 2 focus question for the year is: : How do we respond to the things that really matter?
This half term our unit is called Judaism
Our focus question this half term is ‘What aspects of life really matter?’
We will also be looking at the history of the London Underground and the landmarks of London. This links to our art topic.
PSHE: In PSHE we will complete a 2 units on Relationships.
