English: In English this half-term, we shall be looking Greek Myths. Reading various short story versions, learning and the features and the language used within. With an aim to write our own Myth.


Science: This term we will be focusing and investigating animals and living things. We will be looking into different habitats, environmental changes and the different classifications of animals. As well as investigating how humans change as they get older.
History: This half term in history we will be studying Ancient Greece. We will look at what life was like for the citizens and how their culture grew. We will also investigate their significant battles, art, the Olympics and their culture.
Geography: We shall recap eight points of a compass, four and six-figure grid references, symbols and key (including the use of Ordnance Survey maps) to build their knowledge of the United Kingdom and China. Furthermore, Use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate countries and describe features studied.

Music: Mr Hall will be teaching the children how to play the keyboard using a range of chords, each Thursday, progressing from the keyboard lessons taught.
Art & Design: As artists we will be studying and analysing the work of David Hockney. The children will be studying his cityscapes and painting and sketching in a similar style.
PE: Year 5 will continue to be taught P.E by Miss Vanrose on Mondays. Additionally, swimming will continue on Tuesday mornings. Miss Vanrose will continue to teach the children striking and fielding.


Spanish: Shapes (Las formas) To learn the words for key shapes.
Shapes and colours (Formas y colores) To combine colour and other adjectives with shapes. Prepositions of place (Preposiciones de lugar) To learn how to describe where things are in a picture. To use the language to describe pictures
Year 5 Summer 1: ‘Ancient Greece’
RE: Judaism
In RE, we shall be focusing on Judaism. Our topic focus questions will be, ‘Why is it sometimes difficult to do the right thing?’ and ‘Do people need laws to guide them?’
PSHE: Growing and changing

This half term we will be learning about both Growing and Changing
Computing: Unit 5.7 Concept maps and Unit 5.8 Microsoft Word. We shall be combining this unit with our English when writing our Myths.
