Maths:

In math this half term we will be exploring a range of topics including:

• Properties of 3D shapes and angles

• Position and Direction related to coordinates

• Statistics including interpreting and drawing line graphs

• Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of decimals

Science: This term we will be focusing and investigating animals and living things. We will be looking into different habitats, environmental changes and the different classifications of animals. As well as investigating how humans change as they get older.

English: In English this half-term, we will be looking at stories from other cultures, particularly focusing on the book called Journey in the River Sea. The aim is to write our own stories with the setting based in a Rainforest. Furthermore, we will also be looking at debates and learning to persuade an audience using fact and opinion.

‘The Amazon’

RE: Christianity

Geography: We will recap the world map, whilst introducing knew knowledge on the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer. The topic will primarily focus on the Amazon Rainforest. It’s type of Biome, layers of the rainforest, it’s ecosystem and how the rainforest has an affect on the rest of the world.

In RE, we will be focusing on Christianity, particularly focusing on the church. Our topic focus question will be ‘How do people decide what to believe?’

Year 5 Summer 1:

Music: This half term, music will be taught by Mr Mallon, using a variety of instruments. Children will investigate the use of notation and time signatures to improvise and compose music that tells a story.

Spanish: Shapes

In Spanish we will be looking at learning the words for key shapes and colours and combining these with other and prepositions of place to describe where things are in a picture.

Art & Design: As artists we will be studying and analysing the work of Alberto Giacometti. The children will be studying his various types of sculptures, and working to develop sculptures that represent movement and emotions in wire and clay.

Year 5 Summer 1: ‘The Amazon’

PSHE: Keeping/Staying Healthy

This half term we will be learning about both keeping/staying healthy.

Looking at the children's views and adults views smoking and how could affect your health or others around you.

Computing:

Unit 5.6 3D Modelling

The objective is to use Purple Mash programming to create various 3D models for various purposes.

PE: Year 5 will continue to be taught P.E by Mr Iddon on Thursdays. Additionally, swimming will continue on Tuesday mornings.
