English: We will share some lovely texts that support our topic theme including those about mountains and habitats. We will also be using the story of ‘A matter of loaf and death’ to write stories with a dilemma and we will also produce our own non-fiction information texts about our topic work.

Maths: This half term we will learn about…

Number - Decimals –

- Tenths and hundredths

- Compare decimals

- Order decimals

- Round decimals

- Number – Money

- Converting pounds and pence

- Add, subtract and give change

We must also know all times table facts

Science:

During this half term we will learn that living things can be grouped in a variety of ways and explore and use classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things. We will find out about how environments can change and that this can sometimes pose dangers to living things. Man made changes such as pollution and environmental changes.

‘Our Changing World’

Geography: We will learn about human and physical changes in the environment, the Mountain Ranges of the world, different types of mountain and how they are created. Throughout this topic we will investigate the men and women who have studied the world around us and those that campaign and raise awareness of the ways our world and habitats are changing, encouraging us all to conserve the planet for future generations.

Year 4 Summer Half-term 1:

Music: We will consider the question: How Does Music shape our life?

We will learn about time signatures, create rhythmic patterns using minims, dotted crotchets, crotchets quavers and semi-quavers. We will also create melodic patterns using the notes G, A, B, and D on the Glockenspiel

Art & Design

For our Art unit, we will consider how illustration can add power to our writing by studying the unique style of Quentin Blake. We will experiment with outdoor sketching and mark marking, before following up with some environmental illustrations in watercolour and ink to help empower our environmental writing in science.

Year 4 Summer Half-term 1:

‘Our Changing World’

R.E: Why do Muslims fast during Ramadan?

We will think about the importance of showing commitment to a belief, value or community and we will learn about the importance of Ramadan , fasting and the Five Pillars of Islam .

PSHE: We think about and discuss ’Keeping Healthy’ and Healthy Living. We will learn about different food groups, the importance of a balanced diet, sugar content in different foods and consider how certain types of food can effect our sporting performance.

Computing: This term we will learn about effective online searching and also creating our own musical compositions music using ‘Busy Beats’ and 2Sequence.

PE: This half term we will be working on our striking and fielding skills and learning about fitness and exercise
