English:
In English, we are using a range of books linked to the Monarchy. We will use the texts to develop our writing skills. We will focus on spelling, grammar and punctuation this half term. The children will create their own story based in London using their history learning to support them.
Maths:
In Maths this half term, we will be learning about fractions. We will also be revising strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This is in preparation for SATs.
Science:
Our science units this term are called Plants and Living things & their habitats. We will be looking at what plants need to grow and how they grow. We will also look at habitats and what lives in different habitats.
Year 2
Half-term 5/Summer 1: ‘Castles’
Design Technology: In DT this term our unit of work is called ‘structures’ and ‘food’. We will learn about structures and create a castle structure. We will also create an afternoon tea to celebrate the King’s Coronation. We will focus on Buckingham palace.
PE:
In PE this half term we have 2 sessions of PE. We are continuing to focus on the 7 fundamental skills.
Music:
Our question this half term is ‘How Does Music Make Us Happy?
History:
We will go on a magical journey learning new songs to perform and using the musical instruments.
In History this half term we are looking at the monarchs of the United Kingdom. We will learn about Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II, Henry VII and his 6 wives and King Charles III.
Computing:
This half terms unit of work is called Unit 2.6 Creating Pictures. We will use the program 2Paint a Picture on Purple Mash.
We will focus on the King’s Coronation ceremony and link our DT learning to create an afternoon tea.
We will also be looking at the history of the London Underground and the landmarks of London.
PSHE
RE:
Our year 2 focus question for the year is: : How do we respond to the things that really matter? This half term our unit is called
‘Christianity (Church)’ Our focus question this half term is ‘What unites the Christian community?’
In PSHE we will complete 2 units.
Hazard Watch– Is it safe to eat or drink?
Our World- Living in our world.
We will also recap internet safety and how to protect ourselves online.
