Noah and the Ark
After the flood receded Jews believe that God spoke to Noah. He said: “I promise I won't flood the world again. Go now, and let all your children and grandchildren make the world a really nice place to live in.” God went away again, leaving a lovely rainbow to show that he was going to keep his promise. Sukkot is a week-long Jewish holiday that celebrates the autumn harvest. It is one of the most joyful festivals in Judaism, meant to bring families, friends and communities together to celebrate God’s promise to provide what they need. The holiday also commemorates the 40 years that Jews spent in the desert after escaping slavery in Egypt.
Sukkah is a hut. Jews build in their garden. The sukkah must have two and a half walls and a roof made of branches and leaves. It is important that one can still see the sky when inside the sukkah. Jewish families have their meals and some even sleep inside the sukkah during Sukkot.

Pentecost is a Christian holiday which takes place on the 50th day after Easter Sunday. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Virgin Mary and the Apostles of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks, as described in the Acts of the Apostles.
Whitsuntide the week following Whit Sunday or Pentecost, was traditionally a time for celebration as the first holiday of the summer.
Whitsun was a traditional time for walks and processions. A traditional Procession of Witness or Whit Walk has long been celebrated throughout the North West. Other events and sports celebrate Whitsuntide like cheese rolling.
Worship Christian worship involves praising God in music and speech, readings from scripture, prayers of various sorts, a sermon, and various holy ceremonies (often called sacraments) such as the Eucharist. While worship is often thought of only as services in which Christians come together in a group, individual Christians can worship God on their own, and in any place

Jesus in the wilderness This is a story from the Gospel tells of how Jesus is led into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He fasts for 40 days and 40 nights and is hungry and faces a number of temptations by Satan but he refuses to be tempted. This gospel passage is read on the first Sunday of Lent. Christians believe that the message of this story is that God will help them resist temptation if they ask for his help. Temptation are not bad in themselves but it is what Christians do with them that can help them turn to God or away from God, to be the kind of person they want to be with purity of heart.
Lent is a period of 40 days leading up to the death of Jesus at Easter. Lent starts on Ash Wednesday. In Lent, many Christians commit to fasting, as well as giving up luxuries to reflect Jesus Christ's sacrifice during his journey into the desert for 40 days; this is known as one's Lenten sacrifice. Lent is also a time of reflection and prayer.
Agapé love is the highest form of Christian love, the kind of love and action that shows empathy; extends the desire for good; wants the best; extends help or shows good intentions; and is intended for everyone. Agapé love is sacrificial.
Oscar Romero Catholic Saint Oscar Romero was the Arch Bishop of San Salvador who was shot dead whilst saying mass. At the time, his country was governed by the wealthy who were oppressing the poorest with help from the army. Thousands were imprisoned, tortured, murdered or simply disappeared. Romero denounced the violence in his Sunday sermons. . He is inspirational for many today as he didn’t just talk about the need to love your neighbour, but courageously named and stood up against injustices and showed how we should not ignore the suffering of people in need.

About the Christian belief in Incarnation
When Christians talk about a miracle, they mean an event that is not ‘normal,’ something that cannot be explained by the laws of nature. The Gospels describe 35 miracles that Jesus performed. Some stories are about Jesus healing sick people or bringing dead people back to life. others show Jesus' power over things - changing water into wine, feeding over 5000 people with very little food, and calming a storm.
These miracles are important for Christians as they show that Jesus was more than just a man and they help show what God is like and that God is at work in His world - then and today - and to encourage Christians to believe in God for themselves.

Christianity: Jesus
We should know:
• that Christians believe that miracles are signs of the divinity of Jesus and Christians might go on pilgrimage to places associated with miraculous events
• Understand what a Christian might do during the period of Lent and what ‘sacrifice’ is.
• Holy Week is when Christians reflect on the week leading up to Jesus’ death by crucifixion, known as the Passion of Christ. This is a very solemn period of time for Christians. Holy Week is the last week of Lent, and the week before Eastertide.
• How is Holy Week celebrated? Holy Week is celebrated across the full week, with four key Holy Days. Christians celebrate this period by attending Church services and may continue fasting as during Lent. Christians show devotion by taking part in The Stations of the Cross which is a walk that allows for reflection and re-enactment of Jesus’ final journey, when he carried his cross to Golgotha, the place of his crucifixion.
• Palm Sunday focuses on Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where he arrived on a donkey to observe the Jewish festival of Passover. Today, most churches use palm crosses during the Palm Sunday service. You may see people carrying larger palm branches.
• Maundy Thursday takes place on the Thursday before Easter. This is when Christians remember the first Eucharist at the Last Supper when bread and wine is consecrated and shared. It was on this evening that Judas betrayed Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane which led to his crucifixion the next day.
• Good Friday This is the most solemn of days for Christians – the day of Jesus’ crucifixion. Christians will attend special services at their local church, where they will think about Jesus’ suffering and death, Many churches run a special service between 12 noon and 3pm, as this is the time Jesus was on the cross.
• Holy Saturday falls the day after Good Friday. Churches are silent on this day. Christians take part in a special evening service where baptismal promises are renewed and where Jesus’s resurrection is celebrated with great joy in the heart of the night. A special Easter candle is lit which symbolises the Risen Jesus as the light of the world. This candle will be used at christenings and baptisms for the forthcoming year, reminding worshippers of the life and death of Christ.
