Key Texts

Literacy

This half term, we will develop stamina in our writing and build up to writing a short narrative. We will also be writing letters and postcards, focusing on our sentence structure and using a capital letter, finger spaces and full stop.

Personal Social and Emotional Development

This half term we will continue to develop positive attitudes about the differences between people and think about the perspectives of others. We will continue to explore our own feelings and the feelings of others, moderating our feelings socially and emotionally.

Mathematics:

Number

This half term we will begin to look at doubling, sharing and grouping numbers. We will deepen our Understanding of number by looking at odd and even numbers and understand the patterns and relationships between numbers.

Measure, Shape and Spatial Thinking.

We will continue our work on spatial reasoning. We will also do lots of work on mapping and understanding how maps can help us to get from one place to another.

Reception – Summer 2

Under the Sea

Phonics

We be consolidating our Phase 3 and 4 phonics ready for Year 1! We will focus on blending our sounds into longer, more complex words which use sounds that we know.

Communication and Language

This half term, we will develop our story telling skills and show how well we know a story. We will also look at developing our own stories and verbalising these with detail.

We will also be learning how to show awareness of a listener, developing our skills in conversation and turn taking.

Physical Development

In PE, we will be working with West Lancashire Sports Partnership to develop fundamental skills and movements. We will have chance to explore balance bikes this half term with ‘Tots on Tyres’. Within the classroom, we will be improving our writing and pencil control through handwriting activities and develop the foundations of a fast, accurate handwriting style.

Understanding Our World

This half term our work is all about seaside's, beaches and oceans. We will be finding seaside locations on a map and looking at the similarities and differences between them. We will be exploring seaside's in the past and how they have changed. We will be recognising how a seaside town is different to Leyland. We will explore the animals that live in the ocean through a range of videos, stories and science activities. We will explore maps and how they can be used to find things or places. We will have a go at drawing our own maps and having a go at following a treasure map!

Expressive Arts and Design

Our artist for this half term is Gustav Klimt. We will be looking at his work and recreating some of his techniques. We will also have lots of opportunities to paint and create freely within provision, expressing our ideas and feelings through different media including printing with natural resources.

Forest School

This half term Reception will be continuing forest school with Mrs Cole. The children will be exploring the natural world around them and building resilience, empathy and social skills.
