Welcome to our spring edition of the Norham News. Each term, we will send out information and updates about the great work that is being done at Norham to give our pupils the best education possible. Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our absolutely fantastic parents and carers, our amazing pupils, and my dedicated staff for coming together in these unprecedented times to deal with the challenges that face our community as the coronavirus pandemic continues to develop across the world. Our pupils are curious about what coronavirus means for us as a school community, as I am sure you are too. As a school, we have prepared extensively for the upcoming school closure and we will continue to make sure that you are kept up to date with the latest information. In these challenging times, it is important to celebrate the amazing things that are continuing to happen this year at Norham. One of our huge successes this year has been attendance. We have had several year groups record 100% attendance which is a phenomenal achievement. Schools across the country face challenges regarding attendance, with many having reported figures of around 70% in recent days. Our average attendance over the last week has been firmly over 90%. This means our pupils are continuing to access a quality education and receive the best support and guidance possible. I hope this trend will continue into the future! What have we been up to this term? In our previous newsletter, we stressed the importance of curriculum development as our school moves forward. We know that our pupils deserve an excellent education at Norham, and our curriculum should be designed to enable that fantastic experience. I am pleased to say that this term has been heavily focused on curriculum design, with Curriculum Leaders from all subjects coming together to plan an ambitious, personalised and engaging curriculum for all our pupils. We are ensuring that pupils make rapid progress from their arrival in Year 7 so that they can get the very best outcomes at the end of Year 11, as well as developing the skills they need to take their place in the modern world. Our new curriculum is shaping up to be absolutely first class, and we will be posting updates about our developments on the school’s website in the summer term. Watch this space! Our school council has also been busy this term, working across Norham to improve the experiences our pupils have even further. They have been instrumental in our recent Charity and Kindness week, which was a phenomenal success. They have been working with Wendy and the kitchen team to improve pupil experience at lunchtimes, and have been working with another local secondary school to show just effective a school council can be.
