BEHIND THE SCENES AT MANCHESTER MUSEUM

Year 10 Photography students went behind the scenes at Manchester Museum on a specially organised visit to the Entomology department. Phil, who manages the department and has worked there for 44 years, introduced rare specimens of butterflies and moths, some which are over 100 years old and species which are now extinct! Students photographed the specimens with a specialist macro lens and the results will be included in the ongoing Lottery funded project because there is a unique link with WW1. During war time, injured and traumatised soldiers took part in crafts as part of their rehabilitation, the most popular craft was embroidering butterflies. Student Jasleen said, “It was really fun to go into the store where nobody gets to go and the butterflies were amazing!”

IT’S BEHIND YOU! On Friday 16th November, Year 5 Newall Green Primary School students came to see the Year 11 Drama external performance exam. This was an action packed, colourful and entertaining pantomime called ‘Happily Ever After’. With Snow White, Cinderella, Prince Charming and a fairy-tale ending with a twist, they were bound to be entertained. It was great to see so many happy faces.
