LONGBENTON High School October 2022 Recent GCSE and A-Level Success

GOOD times ahead after June's Ofsted Inspection Our most recent Ofsted inspection took place at the end of the last academic year and resulted in an overall improvement in our school rating from 'Requires Improvement' to 'Good'. On receiving this fantastic news Mrs Holbrook, headteacher, wrote in a letter to parents, 'Since I began here as headteacher in September 2020, I have been determined to ensure that this was the outcome. I am incredibly proud of what staff and students have achieved in such a short space of time to make this ambition a reality.' The full report and letter from the headteacher can be found on our school website or the official Ofsted website.

This summer, Longbenton High School managed to secure record results! At GCSE level, our overall 4+ pass rate was 78% (above the national figure of 75%) and at 5+ we achieved 61% (national = 60%). Our school Progress 8 figure was the highest ever at -0.17. (The average score in England is -0.03) On top of this, 71% of students achieved at least a standard pass (grade 4) in both English and Maths (62% in 2019); and 46% achieved at least a Grade 5 (40% in 2019). Our average grade was a 5, which is a ‘strong’ pass. In terms of A Level performance: 83% of grades were A*-C, 59% were A*-B, with an average grade of a B (in line with local and national averages). Nearly 70% secured their first choice university offer and 100% of our students are now on university courses, apprenticeships or in employment. There was a real buzz on both results days and we had our highest ever retention figure from Year 11 into Year 12, with 45% of our students staying in our Sixth Form to complete A Levels and BTECs.

Key Headlines from the Oftsted report: We have an “ambitious” curriculum and set high expectations for our pupils Our behaviour is “calm and purposeful” and students have “positive attitudes to learning” We are a “caring school” who “knows its pupils well”; our students “feel safe” here Those with SEND “make strong progress” at Longbenton We “support pupils to become confident young people”
