Lomeshaye Life We are all working hard this term at Lomeshaye Junior School and over the next two weeks all pupils will be taking tests and having assessments completed to see how much progress we have made so far this year. Keep working hard everyone! Well done to everyone who made it to school this week. This week we have met our school target once again, with the whole school achieving 98.4% this is an improvement on last week and I hope that the high standard continues right up to our Christmas holidays. Year 6 Maya Experience— this week our Year 6 pupils were very lucky to be visited by a real archaeologist. A lady called Dr. Diane Davies came to school to work with the children to help them to learn more about an ancient civilization called the Maya. The children were able to handle real artefacts and talk to the expert about her exploration of places where the Maya lived. They were all very enthused by the visit which will help them with their learning in history this term.
Creating Schools Visit to Helmshore Textile Mill—30 pupils went to visit Helmshore Textiles mill this week to gain inspiration for their music, literature and history project on the Victorians. The children learnt about the history of weaving and cotton making and are now ready to work with some musicians to develop a folk song about the Victorian Era. UN Convention on the Rights of the Child—on Tuesday everyone in school celebrated the anniversary of when the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was signed. This agreement was first signed on 20th November 1989 and so is now 29 years old. As you know pupils at Lomeshaye have been learning about children’s rights over the last year and they decided to raise some funds for a local charity on the anniversary this week. Year 6 Mock SATs week—remember to go to bed early and eat breakfast every day so that you are ready for every test. Monday 26th—Year 3, 4 and 5 flu vaccinations.
