Aspire - Believe - Achieve Spring Term Year 3

Lancashire End of Year Expectations and KLIPS

As Historians we will: *Use our enquiry skills to study about Britain’s settlement by Anglo Saxons and Scots; the Viking and Anglo Saxon struggle for Kingdom of England to the time of Edward the Confessor 1066 and the Bayeux tapestry. As Geographers we will: * Use our enquiry and investigation skills within the area of Settlements (historic/ current) and describe and understand key aspects of human geography, including types of settlement.

As Scientists we will: * Observe that magnetic forces can act without direct contact, unlike most forces, where direct contact is necessary (for example, opening a door, pushing a swing). We will also compare, observe, describe and predict within our investigations. As Musicians we will: Speak chants and rhymes with control and clear diction. We will experience how different musical elements can be combined to communicate different moods and effects.

In Computing we will: *Use technology safely and respectfully and have an understanding of how to keep information secure. *Develop an understanding of what is acceptable-unacceptable online behaviour.

In PE we will take part in: Invasion Games: Perform using a number of sending and receiving skills with consistency, accuracy, confidence and control and later speed. Gymnastics: Devise and perform a sequence of gymnastic actions, showing a clear beginning, middle and end.

As Rights Respecting citizens we will focus on: Links between our history topic – Under Attack and explore the Rights to healthcare and ‘wants and needs’.

As Powerful Learners we will be: Creative Resilient Communicators

Wow Factor and Outcomes Initiate and arrange a raid.

As Mathematicians we will: Gain a deeper knowledge and understanding in Place Value; Mental addition and subtraction; Fractions; Fractions and Division; Volume – capacity and mass; multiplications; Money; 2D & 3D shape and Position and Direction. As Designers we will: *Design a mechanism using levers and linkages. We will examine existing examples, plan our own design, make a proto-type and evaluate its effectiveness.

As Writers we will: Use Aesop’s fables to enhance our history theme and develop our persuasive skills in an attempt to mediate between both sides of the Battle of Hastings. We will also use the novel – Beowulf to inform our writing around our Viking topic. As Artists we will: *Explore a variety of art techniques, including oil pastels, painting, stippling, shading etc. To create a Viking ship in action.

Under Attack

In RE we will: Learn and understand about Buddhism. We will understand the main parts of Buddha’s story and make comparisons with the Vesak festival to others we celebrate.

In PSHE we will: Look at balancing our physical, emotional and mental welfare. We will also examining how exercise and life choice of a good nutritional balanced diet or working with food is essential.

In our Creative Curriculum theme this term we are delving into the daily life of the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings. We will explore the settlements and battles of the time and realise historical artefacts from the time which are still visible today.

As Readers we will: Develop our skills in sequence and summary and inference, justifying the response using point and evidence.

As Linguists we will: *Continue to develop our speaking, listening, reading and writing skills while learning ‘les Nombres’ (numbers) 1-20 and ‘l’alphabet français (the French alphabet). We will learn how to say our age and spell our names and understand others’ names in French. Visits/Visitors: *To be confirmed.

Governors/Parental/ Community Involvement: We will invite our parents and school Governors to the end session of a Family Friday carousel, where we will dress up and take part in a ‘Mead’ festival.
