Spring Term 2025
When I look back at each term and as one of the Senior Leaders within our school, I am always proud of the hard work and commitment shown by our whole community to make Libanus Primary a place where our children can soar. From volunteers supporting our children with reading, pupils keeping our school environment clean with litter picks, staff organising experiences inside and outside of school, such as trips to We the Curious, to the management team enhancing their knowledge and skills to continue to develop the school, this term has been no exception. As always, I am blown away by the commitment from all and am sure our recent inspection visit from Estyn will reflect the wonderful community we have all created.

Introduction from the Chair of Govenors

Hello, my name is Rebecca Jenkins and I have been on the board of Governors for Libanus Primary School for nearly thirteen years. I am thrilled to have been recently re-elected and I am entering my third year as Chair of the Governing Body.

I am a parent of three children, two daughters who have now left Libanus and a son who is in Year 4, I feel extremely proud to say that my children have all attended the school. I am very grateful for all the hard work and dedication shown to them by all of the staff over the years to help them succeed and to continue to succeed. I knew the first day my eldest daughter started nursery in 2012, I wanted a role within the school and to be part of its wonderful ethos, the best way for me to do that was to become a governor.
In my professional life I am a teacher of ICT and Computer Science and a newly appointed Progress Manager at Blackwood Comprehensive School. I have always had a passion for education and being a governor at Libanus has allowed me to take an active role in the decision making process not only for my own children but for others within our community.

St David's Day.

Our pupils once again, impressed us with their confidence to perform a variety of pieces in front of their peers, in class and on stage, during this years Eisteddfod celebrations. Our welsh language and culture was definitely embraced by all Libanusians. Well done to all involved, children, staff and families. This year also saw the introduction of the 'Open mic ' competition where children in Years 3 to 6 could sing and piece of music as a solo, duet or group. We were blown away by the amount of children who entered
ASDA
We also welcomed our friends from ASDA into school during our Eisteddfod week, who brought a variety of Welsh food for our Year 1 and 2 children to taste. The children loved this new experience.

Crucial
Crew
Supporting our pupils to be informed and responsible citizens we take our Year 6 pupils to the annual Crucial Crew event in Blackwood Rugby Club. This event helps raise the awareness of road safety such as use of seatbelts, the dangers associated with poor hygiene and cyber bullying. The RNLI also discussed water safety and the Fire Service explored fire safety, both inside and outside of the house As a result of attending, pupils are more confident and in a better position to make safer choices when confronted with these dangers.

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day and it was a huge success Pupils were invited into school in their pyjamas with their favourite cuddly toy and book, took part in shared reading, book quizzes and were asked to guess the Masked Reader Thank you for organising Mrs Crandon and Reading Champions!
Although World Book day only happens once a year, at Libanus, classes who achieve the highest attendance each week win the opportunity to have an end of day story read to their class by Mrs Williams or the opportunity to donate it to another class. Here we can see Nursery enjoying a story from Mrs Williams.

Easter Celebrations

Easter celebrations began with a wonderfully attended Easter bonnet parade in the back yard, Thank you to our families for creating such splendid bonnets/hats, and for joining in the celebrations.

Also, a big DIOLCH to our Friends of Libanus Primary School (FOLPS) for supplying Easter treats for our pupils to enjoy on the last day of term. Some classes even held an Easter treasure hunt using these treats.
We were thrilled to have had a visit from Rev Sue and our friends from Elim Church again this Easter. They helped us learn about the true meaning of the Christian festival through puppetry, laughter and song. In addition, all children performed a song, poem or dance as part of their class celebrations. As Rev Sue sets off for retirement we would like to say a big thank you for helping us learn and celebrate key events over the last few years

Terrific trips
Staff have been busy organising and taking pupils on a variety of trips this term. From visiting our local library, learning about the welsh culture and history in St Fagans and Cardiff Castle, to exploring all things science related at We the Curious. Our Year 3 pupils even experienced their first residential at the Urdd in Cardiff Bay. Thank you to all of our teachers, teaching assistants and lunchtime supervisors who make these trips happen. Giving up your free time to plan, organise and take our Libanusians out of school to have these learning experiences is greatly appreciated.

Authentic Experiences
Our wonderful friend, Kat Watkins from Disability Wales, came to speak with our Year 5 and 6 pupils in January to launch the new learning theme of how technology can positively impact our daily life Kat answered pupil questions, showed us her electric chair and her adapted car. As a result of her visit, pupils were eager to learn about electricity, design and build prototypes to enhance our learning environment for all abilities .
