Tutor Trust: High-quality tutoring for pupils through the National Tutoring Programme A number of our Secondary schools have successfully used tutors from Tutor Trust, usually to boost the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and vulnerable learners. A case study of their two-year partnership with Helen Pinnington and her team at St Edmund Arrowsmith in Knowsley is attached. Tutor Trust have been a prestigious EEF 'Promising Project' since 2019. They achieved this status because of the strong results from the randomised control trial of their work that the EEF carried out; three months of additional progress in Maths from 12 hours of tutoring.

Flexible tutoring online and in school via the National Tutoring Programme Tutor Trust is an approved delivery partner of the National Tutoring Programme (NTP). This is the governmentbacked scheme to give schools high-quality, low-cost tutoring for disadvantaged pupils whose learning has been hit

by COVID disruption.

Tutor Trust can support pupils of all abilities from Year 7 through to Year 11 in English, Maths and Science. They are very flexible about how and when tutoring is delivered: online tuition to pupils while they are at home, or tutoring online in school, or face-to-face in school.

This means Tutor Trust is an important part of the solution to boosting attainment and building confidence during lockdown and beyond. Most schools do not want to delay tutoring until after lockdown; instead, they want to crack on and give this vital support to pupils right now.

With Tutor Trust, it is quick and easy to set up online tutoring sessions, whether pupils are in school or at home.

They take care of the liaison between tutors, parents/carers and pupils, and their online platform is easy to use. To help ensure that online assignments run smoothly and have an impact on outcomes, they always arrange a 'get to know you' session between the tutors, the pupils and the parents/carers before the tutoring sessions commence.

Safeguarding at Tutor Trust Tutor Trust take Safeguarding very seriously, both for face-to-face tutoring and online. Their policies and practices on Safeguarding are fully compliant with the KCSIE Guidance and NSPCC advice. Their Safeguarding protocols have been independently reviewed and approved by the National Tutoring Programme.

All Tutor Trust tutors must complete updated safeguarding training at the start of each academic year before they can take on any tutoring assignments. This is compulsory for every tutor who works for the Tutor Trust. Similarly, any tutors recruited during the academic year must complete this safeguarding training before they can begin any assignments. All tutors and staff at Tutor Trust have an enhanced DBS certificate.

Discounted costs and next steps Under the NTP, a block of 15 hours of tutoring in Maths, English or Science will cost schools as little as £60 per pupil for the full programme. Schools can use the extra ‘catch-up’ funding from Government (worth £80 per child this academic year) or their Pupil Premium budget to cover these modest costs. The cost is the same for online tutoring as it is for face-to-face tutoring.

High Achieving Pupils (HAPs) Working Group Information

Hope Academy have created a HAPs Working Group page on their website to help schools who are researching ideas to support their HAPS cohorts. You will have access to case studies from a range of schools who have created video/Loom presentations showcasing successful strategies which have had impact with higher ability students. The impact of COVID-19 on school staff since March has been overwhelming and the workload demands are not easing up. We will be exploring how to support and promote staff wellbeing within schools, academies and MATs during these unprecedented times; sharing successes from other schools and MATs, and new ideas from The Art Project on how to use the arts as a tool for positive mental health.

A forum for secondary leaders to share their experiences, challenges and successes with fellow peers. Key topics include TBC The impact of COVID-19, school closures and disrupted learning has had an overwhelming impact on pupil wellbeing and mental health. We will be discussing the impact and tools to support children through this challenging period in time, with special guests from Thrive to discuss use of the Thrive Approach to support and promote positive mental health and resilience A forum for SEN leaders to share their experiences, challenges and successes with fellow peers.
