Pearson National Tutoring Webinars As you may already know, Pearson has recently been selected as an approved provider by the National Tutoring Programme where the government will be providing 75% of the tutoring costs for students who have been disadvantaged over the last few months, with the school paying the reminding 25%.

All our tutors are fully qualified teachers and are drawn from our pool of assessment associates so therefore have the additional experience as examiners.

We will be offering online and face to face tutoring for the following subjects at GCSE: • GCSE English Language for Edexcel and AQA specifications.

• GCSE Maths for Edexcel and AQA specifications.

• GCSE Combined Science and Separate Science for Edexcel and AQA specifications.

Catch-up premium: COVID-19 We are sharing this information from the Diocesan Schools Commission and Directors of Religious Education.

The Department for Education published yesterday new guidance on what catch-up funding schools are eligible for, when payments will be made and how the funding can be used to help pupils catch up on missed education. The catch-up premium is in addition to the funding for the national tutoring programme, 16 to 19 tuition fund, and oral language intervention programme for reception-aged children.

The guidance is available at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/catch-up-premium-coronavirus-covid-19 Newsletter—Edition 1 Winter 2015 Catch-up premium The following settings are eligible for the premium: • primary, secondary and all through local authority-maintained schools, academies and free schools • local authority-maintained special schools • special academies and free schools • special schools not maintained by a local authority • pupil referral units • alternative provision (AP) academies and free schools • local authority-maintained hospital schools and academies • independent special schools The funding is calculated on a per pupil basis. Mainstream school will get £80 for each pupil in from reception to year 11 inclusive. Special, AP and hospital schools will get £240 for each place for the 2020 to 2021 academic year. Payments are made in three tranches: autumn 2020, early 2021 and summer 2021.

The purpose of the funding is for it to be used for specific activities to support pupils catching up for lost teaching over the previous months. While schools can use their funding in a way that suits their cohort and circumstances, they are expected to use this funding for specific activities which will help pupils catch up on missed education.

School leaders will need to be able to show they are using the funding to resume teaching a normal curriculum as quickly as possible following partial or full school closure. Governors and trustees are expected to scrutinise schools’ approaches to catch-up from September 2020, including their plans for and use of catch-up funding. During Ofsted inspections schools may be asked about their plans to spend catch-up funding.

The Leading improvement programme for middle leaders has been designed to inspire, challenge and support individual leaders and managers who are actively seeking to transform their personal effectiveness and professional impact.

This programme is ideal for developing leadership skills1 for new 2015 Heads of department and aspiring/current Newsletter—Edition Winter middle leaders.

The key features of this programme are aimed at supporting learning through individual leadership skill development and through work-based learning.

The programme is delivered over 3 sessions and requires participants to attend face-to-face sessions, complete a 360˚diagnostic work based intersessional tasks and a tutorial session. In the current climate, this will be delivered virtually. Learning is further supported by line manager coaching/mentoring sessions and small-scale research of leadership development. The cost for colleagues following this programme will be £500 based on a minimum of 10 participants.

High Achieving Pupils (HAPs) Working Group Information Hope Academy have created a HAPs Working Group page on their website to help schools who are researching ideas to support their HAPS cohorts. You will have access to case studies from a range of schools who have created video/Loom presentations showcasing successful strategies which have had impact with higher ability students. Registering for Online Zoom Sessions As all our autumn term meetings have moved to virtual Zoom sessions, it is particularly important that all colleagues register to attend or send apologies using our online booking forms. This will ensure that colleagues receive the correct Zoom link to join each session and will allow us to quickly identify them when they join using their school's generic Zoom account .

If they do not register, then the meeting may be delayed as we will need to identify each colleague to accurately record the minutes and in the case of HoD meetings, to allocate them to the correct exam board ‘break out’ session.
