As Reception is still within the Early Years, a large portion of our day is spent with the children engaged in child-led play. High quality resources and adult interaction will allow your child to learn through their play whilst also following their own interests. We follow the Curiosity Approach to enable us to do this.
The children will also engage in adult-led direct teaching such as phonics, maths, PE, PSHE, RE and topic (Art, Music, Geography , etc.).
This will be taught through engaging, hands-on experiences wherever possible.

"Most of what children need to learn during their early childhood years cannot be taught: it's discovered through play" Ruth Wilson
There is no such thing as 'just play'! There is overwhelming research that shows children learn best when they play and engage with activities that interest them. Our highly skilled team provide a learning environment that enables children to explore, create, experiment and play! Our resources, equipment and activities are all set up in a way that meets the developmental needs of each child. Our staff will regularly play with the children because it is our skilled interaction and support that helps them to progress.
-The main school gates open at 8.40am and Reception classroom doors open at 8.45am. Children self register by finding their name and putting it in the basket, they put their belongings away and engage in a morning name writing activity.
-Following register, we do Reading Squad and then Phonics. We follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme and start teaching this almost immediately. In September, there will be another meeting about phonics and ways you can support your child at home.
-We then move to continuous provision activities both indoor and outdoor, with some teacher led activities happening at the same time. Children have access to a healthy snack and their water bottles throughout continuous provision time.
•After continuous provision, we have a maths session followed by nursery rhymes and a story.
•Lunchtime begins 11:45am for Reception.
•After lunch, register is taken and Drawing Club is taught before we go back into continuous provision.
•At around 2.30pm we tidy up and bring the children together for a final teaching session related to the theme. We will finish the day with a story before the children get ready to go home.

• For Reception, the day ends at 3.25pm leaving you free to collect other children at 3.30pm when the main school finishes. Please let us know who will be collecting your child from school if you are unable to do it yourself. For safety reasons, we will not let a child go with anyone unless we have been informed by a parent/carer.

In Reception, we often learn through play and this can get messy!
We are also active all day! Please don’t worry if your child comes home in a dirty uniform, it is a sign of the learning they have been engaged in at school all day.
The school uniform is compulsory. The children wear black trousers or a black skirt/pinafore, along with a red sweatshirt or cardigan.
These are worn with a white polo shirt. Black shoes, plain black trainers, or black boots should be worn as suitable footwear.

Jumpers and Cardigans with the logo can be purchased from Uniform Direct in Grimsby Town Centre; or can be purchased online. Children are more than welcome to wear a plain red jumper or cardigan that does not have the logo on; these can be bought from any local outlet.
Pupils who are in receipt of Pupil Premium are eligible to receive 1 free school sweatshirt/cardigan per year.

We ask for all parents to please label their children's clothes and shoes. This makes identifying the owner of any lost items of clothing much easier.

Reception children are required to come into school wearing their P.E. kit on a Tuesday. This is with the view of optimising learning time and P.E. lessons.
Children are required to wear black shorts/jogging bottoms/leggings, a red t-shirt, a black/red sports jacket and a pair of trainers may be worn.
As the children wear this all day, it needs to be weather appropriate.
Please mark all kit clearly with your child’s name.
We recommend the removal of earrings on PE days if they are not able to do so themselves, as staff are not permitted to do this. However, if this is not possible, please provide plasters to cover the earrings. Plasters will not be provided by the school. If earrings are not removed/plasters not provided, your child will not be permitted to take part in the PE lesson.

A carrier bag with a spare set of clothes, wipes, nappy bags for soiled clothes etc. (that can be left on their peg at school).
A reading pack will be given out in September, this will be given out
weekly on a Friday with phonics homework, maths homework and a library book. It needs to be returned on the following Wednesday. A backpack is handy to carry this in as well as any letters, pictures etc. throughout the week.
Lunch if they are packed lunch (No fizzy drinks or sweets).
A drink bottle preferably filled with water.
Sun hat (sun cream to be applied before school please)
Wellington boots and a rain coat- please ensure your child has a coat everyday as we go outdoors all year round and the weather can be very changeable! .
*All labelled please*

We use a brilliant app called Class Dojo, which you can download on your smart phone. Through this app we can post photographs of learning and any homework or important information/key dates.

The My Child at School free app is where school information is shared by the school office as well as through emails.

We post photos regularly on our school Instagram account

Follow us to see the learning that happens at our school.
We are on the door at the beginning and end of the school day if you need to pass on any brief information or concerns about your child. If you wish to discuss something further then we can arrange an appointment with you.

We invite you into school every half term to a stay and play session and every full term for a local nature walk.
There are also regular open evenings for us to discuss your child’s progress. If any problems arise in between these times, we will contact you and ask you to come in for a chat so that together we can find ways to support your child.
If your child is going to be absent from school, please telephone the main office (01472 320601) or email (office@lacebyacres.org) to let us know the reason as early in the morning as possible, for each day that they are absent.
If your child requires prescribed medication then you must complete a form which can be found at the school office before we can administer it. The medication must be clearly labelled with your child’s name and the required dosage. This applies to any allergies or other medical conditions your child may haveplease ensure the office are informed as soon as possible at the beginning of the school year in this case.
If your child has asthma and requires an inhaler, please provide an inhaler which can be kept at school and follow the same protocol as above.

The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 came into force on 1st September, 2013. The amendments make clear that Head Teachers may not grant any Leave of Absence during term-time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Head Teachers determine the number of school days a child can be away from school if the leave of absence is granted.
*A holiday form must be filled in at the office if you are planning to take your child away during term time.
Penalty Notices:
First Penalty Notice within a 3 Year Period-
Parents must, from 19 August, 2024, pay £80.00 within 21 days or £160.00 within 28 days (per parent, per child).
Second Penalty Notice within a 3 Year Period-
Parents must, from 19 August, 2024, pay £160.00 with no reduction (per parent, per child).
The Enquire Learning Trust and Laceby Acres Academy are aware of the effect Leave of Absence taken in term time is having on overall attendance and, potentially, the achievement of pupils. We would urge your support in this matter and ask you not to take your child out of school for any reason, except the most exceptional of circumstances.

All children are entitled to a free school meal in Reception, year 1 and year 2. The lunch menu generally offers a daily choice of either jacket potato, sandwich, pasta pot, main meal or vegetarian main course.
It is still important to make a Pupil Premium application as the school will receive additional funding for every eligible pupil.
*Please make sure your child brings a packed lunch to school for the first 2 weeks until the dinner ordering process is set up and available to Reception.
Breakfast club is everyday from 8.00am to 8:45am for 5+ years and costs £2.50 per session. Parents who would like to sign their children up can do so via the MCAS app.
Precious Times Pre-School, which is on the same site as Laceby Acres Academy, offer a Breakfast Club 7.30am-8.45am (£4.50) and an after-school club 3.30pm- 6.00pm (£10.00) for children up to 12 years old.
