Welcometo HumberstonCloverfields Academy
Reception

Our School
We are very fortunate to have beautiful grounds that surround the school, including a huge playing field, a purpose-built Early Years Unit for Nursery and Reception pupils, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and recently added play equipment in two playgrounds.
Did you know?
Eleven members of staff have achieved Level 1 in Makaton and use this important skill to help our children communicate.
Four members of staff, two in EYFS and two in KS1 have completed PECS training so are able to effectively support all learners to communicate and express their needs.
The Head of School is a Primary Mastery Specialist and is working to embed a mastery approach to Maths in school.
All members of the teaching and learning team have Level 1 Mental Health Awareness as we understand the importance of supporting our children to be mentally healthy.
Our Values

A child leaving Cloverfields will have a clear sense of their own uniqueness that enables them to be confident, independent learners with a high level of self-esteem. They will be happy, well balanced and socially adaptable. They will be highly motivated with all the tools they need for the next steps in their learning journey.
There is a strong culture of community where it is safe to take risks and to care about trying hard- all staff and all pupils. “ To fit in, in this school, working hard and treating people well is expected”
The school has a culture of caring at all levels and striving for excellence.
All members of the school community believe that human capacity is open ended; that effort creates intelligence; a greater effort can compensate for differences in prior attainment. “Smart isn’t something you are. It’s something you get.” (Jeff Howard)
Welcome from the Principal

Our aim is that our school is a happy, friendly, safe place where children and staff feel welcome and valued; a place where all members of the school community care about each other and are kind to each other; a place where behaviour is excellent and where everybody takes pride in whatever they do.
We are lucky to have a dedicated and skilful staff who all work very hard to provide the best opportunities for all pupils and to create a positive atmosphere of purposeful learning. We aim to build the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to help all our pupils become responsible and respectful young adults.

The support of our parents and the wider community is very important to us all. We know children learn best when parents and school work closer together and we value your input and ideas. Please come and talk to us about any worries or concerns you may have.

Our School Day
The school day starts from 8:50am and finishes at 3:15pm.
In Reception, a large portion of the school day is spent engaged in child-led play. High quality resources and adult interactions enable your child to learn through their play whilst following their own interests.
The children will also engage in adult-led teaching in Phonics, Maths, PSHE, RE and through topic. These sessions will be taught through engaging, hands-on experiences wherever possible.

Learning Through Play
Play is often viewed as a simple pastime for children, but its significance in early childhood education is profound. Play-based learning fosters essential cognitive, social, and emotional development in young learners.
Play-based learning is an educational approach that uses play as the primary mode of learning. Children engage in structured and unstructured play to explore concepts, solve problems, and develop skills. This method is rooted in the understanding that children learn best when they are actively involved and having fun.

Our highly skilled team provide a learning environment that enables children to explore, create, experiment and play! Our resources, equipment and activities are all set up in a way that meets the developmental needs of each child. Our staff will regularly play with the children because it is our skilled questioning and support that helps them to progress.Throughout each day the children will play independently, in groups, with an adult, at a table, on the floor, writing in a book, writing in the mud! We encourage all of our parents to play with their children at home too. You will be amazed at what children are capable of when we meet them at their level.

School Uniform
In Reception, we learn through play and it can get a little messy!
We recommend you wear a green sweatshirt or cardigan with the school logo on, white polo shirt, black or grey trousers or a black or grey skirt.
Black shoes are preferred rather than trainers. If trainers are worn, they must be black and as plain as possible.
Children will need a coat for playing outside.
P.E. Kit
For PE sessions, we recommend you wear a green round-necked t-shirt, plain black shorts and black plimsolls or trainers.
A pair of black jogging bottoms and a black hooded sweatshirt may be worn when the weather is cooler.
P.E kit can be worn on the day your child has a PE lesson.
All school clothes should be named.
Uniform can be purchased from our page on Uniform Direct or from the Uniform Hut.
