Yearbook

You have reached the end of your HNC years and will soon be embarking on the next chapter in your life.

Throughout your time with us we have challenged you to be the best you can be and you have risen to that challenge over and over again. We are all incredibly proud of the way that you have conducted yourselves throughout your time with us. The way that you turned up, worked hard, and never gave up. I hope that you will leave us with special memories that make you smile whenever you think of your college days. I hope that you take what you learned here and use it to shape your future. Remember to always aspire to great things. Set yourself the highest bar and work hard to achieve your goals. There will be times when life knocks you off course and slows you down, don’t let these set-backs stop you from realising your vision. I hope that College staff supported you to make wise choices, to treat people with respect, and to be kind towards each other. Finally, I want to wish you all the very best for the future. Please keep in touch and let us know what you are doing. It is always wonderful to hear the success stories of former students and to feel that sense of pride that we were a step along your way to achieving something great. Take care of yourself and of each other and always have the courage to be who you are.

Good luck to all our Year 13 Travel students in their next steps after College.

DING DONG! Many thanks for all the hard work, enthusiasm and humour you have brought to each and every one of our lessons (even those rotten 9am ones!). I don’t think I have been asked ‘what if...’ as many times as I have from your group and I must admit I’m not sure there are many more scenarios you could possibly come up with, although knowing you lot the list is probably endless.

I think you all know that I genuinely will miss our lessons together. Yes, even with Haleemah’s sighing at my every word, with all of your ridiculous stories of your weekend antics, all the times you made me go off topic, even to my name being stretched out to over six syllables long (Zooooooooeeee). Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, your positive attitude has not gone unappreciated and your presence in my room will be something that is missed for some time.

To each and every one of you, I hope you have enjoyed the lessons as much as I have. Congratulations on making it through, it’s not always been easy but I’m sure it has been worth it. Here’s to you and the future!

To the Applied Law Class of 2023,

To the Class of 2023 – it’s absolutely flown and I can’t believe you’re heading off to your next steps already. You’ve all achieved incredible things, having such a disjointed time at GCSE due to the pandemic and then adapting to being back in full time education when transitioning to college. Although it may not have felt like it at times for some of you, you have tackled it head on with strength, courage and self-belief. Whether you have had a one off appointment, just dropped by, or had regular sessions – it’s been an absolute pleasure to meet you and work with some of you so closely.

The resilience and determination you’ve shown is inspirational and sets a really good foundation for challenges you may face in adult life. It isn’t a straight line to success and when you hit a bump in the road, remember you have the power to take control and shape your future into how you want it to be. You are valued, you are worthy and you deserve every happiness in life. All the very best in your next steps!

A Level History Students

To all my Year 13 students. We have nearly survived two years of History. I have many more grey hairs (looking at you Louis, Alex and Joshie), some of you have developed intense range (Josh, Nicole!) and I have spent much time giving out treats to get you all to revise!

I hope you have learnt that Stein is a great way to rank things, that Memrise is incredibly annoying, and that the 7 sacraments that will get you into heaven (Unless you are Protestant). We have had some fun and some stress, joy and despair, but we have gotten through it together. I genuinely hope Mills takes over as Prime Minister and I pray to God that Tom does not. I will miss Jacob’s condemnation of communism on a weekly basis, Millie’s restraint to not kill him, and the lovely Joe’s rise above it all! On a more serious note, History is hard, and you have persevered on one of the hardest A Levels. If you come out of your exams thinking I could not have done more, and that I worked hard and did my best, I could not ask for more from you. Not one of my classes has been boring! I hope you achieve all of your dreams and continue your love of History. Obviously I insist you contemplate God Boot/Sequin Fridays to spark joy in your future lives.

Oscar Bray A Level Drama

Thank you for keeping me constantly amused and entertained. It will be difficult to forget Hannah’s parents singing songs from the musicals at me during our first parents’ evening; Micah’s many alter egos (Mico was always my favourite); Ethan’s confusion over my ability to teach practical Drama as well as theory; Laquaiya’s horror in my Expressionism workshop; Jack’s enthusiasm for a truncheon; Aurora’s excitement at being in the Green Team; Alyssa and Archie’s ever-changing hair; Luke’s dark humour; Lauren’s love for Stanley Stubbers; Felix’s “office work”; Kizzie’s endless traffic issues; Florence’s amazing jump from failing to excelling in the Year 12 mock; Maani’s Viola and the wonderful world of Natalia’s mind. Dario Fo would be as proud as I am. Your C3 performances blew me away and I know you can all smash the exam. Please keep in touch and let us know what you’re up to. Break a leg!

Exeunt, Year 13.

It was my absolute pleasure to take these amazing Year 13 students to Venice.

We had a fabulous time in the sunshine, walking for miles, eating endless food and experiencing amazing sights. The expressions on your faces when you saw the amazing architecture and tasted the beautiful gelato will stay with me forever.

What you experienced I hope you will talk about forever, and I hope you will love Venice as much as I do (although that is probably impossible!).

Our journey together has sadly come to an end, but I know you will stay in touch and keep me updated about your new careers ahead. I sincerely wish you all the best.

A Level StudentsPsychology

“To my wonderful E block, thank you for a fantastic two years! I have thoroughly enjoyed our lessons together- even the ones where I forgot the English language every time ‘lanyard man’ popped in! I wish you all the best of luck for the future in whatever you decide to do!

Criminology

To My E and F Criminology classes, I know I missed a chunk of your two years while I was on leave but it has been a privilege to come back and support you in completing your diploma in Criminology. You have worked hard these last few months, I have seen a real interest from many of you in studying law and criminality and I am pleased so many of you are continuing this keen interest further by studying it at university or entering into the police force. We have had many laughs along the way and I wish you all the very best in your next steps.

Best wishes, Zoe

Wishing you all the best for your next journey after HNC. Never forget your dreams and work hard to achieve them.

Special note from Jill - my final ever groups of students after 19 years teaching Early Years and 23 years at the college - what an amazing couple of groups to end on (I’ll still forget all of your names though as you know it is not my strong point)!!!

A Level StudentsFilm A Level French and Spanish Students

FRENCH

Chers étudiants de français. The best of luck for the coming exams and your university courses. With what you have achieved in A Level French, you will be so very ready for any future study. No more subjunctive, no more reflexive verbs and no more green booklets. BON COURAGE!

SPANISH

CHICOSSSSS! What could I possibly say to sum up these past two years? Ser vs Estar, the imperfect subjunctive, tales of swords and quill pens, Paris Hilton, Aca and green booklets. I wish you the best for the future and have no doubt that you’ll ace everything that you do. BUENA SUERTE CHICOSSSSS!

I would like to say a big thank you to all Film Students. I’ve really enjoyed teaching you over these last two years and I will miss you all.

You have genuinely been an absolute pleasure to teach and I will miss our discussions on such crucial topics as to whether the Rock is cool, Prisoners vs Zodiac (you’re all wrong), what’s going on in the surrealist films (still no clue) and how to spell rhythm (finally!).

I wish you all the best for the future and I’m confident you will make a success of whatever you pursue. Take care of yourselves!

To my BusinessAppliedgroups

You have had a truly unusual experience in education these past few years. But, you have gotten through a pandemic, and are about to leave HNC with some great grades, ready to take on your future challenges. I hope you have some great memories from college, alongside all the skills you have developed and friends you have made. A andLevelApplied Business Students

Thanks for the memories. It has been a pleasure to be your teacher this year and help support you on your journey. I have the utmost faith in all of your capabilities and know that if you work hard you achieve great things. Remember “To be successful you must accept all challenges that come your way. To my Sociologists…Wishing you all the best in whatever path you have chosen to tread, it has been a pleasure getting to know you all over these last two years. All I can ask is that you use your sociological imagination to question and challenge the world around you…. and above all make sure you continue to smash the patriarchy!

Zarah Nazir

A Level StudentsHistory

Wishing all A Level historians the very best of luck in your exams and every success in your next steps. For those of you in my classes, thank you for all your hard work. It’s been quite the journey - we have laughed (a lot!) and we have cried, but you stuck it out. You can now celebrate that you won’t have to complete another flipped pack or coursework log for me again! I will miss your coordinated dance routines to the Kahoot music, your competitiveness when taking part in my quizzes (even Millie’s Blooket rage!), your patience at filling in yet another judgement line, your handy analogies (mainly Gabe and Abu!), the weekly messages checking what folder to bring in (mainly Lucie!), marking a weekly stream of top quality practice essays (mainly Liam!), and for you almost always laughing at my terrible jokes (all of you!). It’s been a blast and I will miss you all. Keep in touch!

A Level Geography Students

I hope you go out into the world knowing slightly more about it than when you came in to HNC. Try not to get too depressed by urban deprivation, West Yorkshire’s crime rate, coastal erosion, climate change or the inevitability of a supervolcanic eruption. It’s not a bad planet that we live on, just one we don’t fully understand. Perhaps you will get a job in the future where you can do something about one of these issues, or maybe you will become an artist. Either way, thank you for choosing to study Geography and best wishes for the future, wherever you end up going.

Zarah Nazir

Criminology Students

It’s never easy inheriting a second year class, but you have shown me that it is very possible. Thank you all for being so warm and welcoming from the beginning, I have absolutely loved teaching you this year. From hearing you pass a whole class verdict on ‘dodgy looking’ people who the court actually deem innocent, to sensitively discussing some high-profile murder cases... Criminology lessons have been lively and interesting to say the least. Some personal highlights include the CSI day where you gave me a copy of your fingerprints (criminal alibi alert!) and hearing you plan your own prison rewards system so maturely. I will miss your friendly faces. I hope you all stay happy and safe in the future. You will be missed.

Applied Psychology

Hoping that all you have learned about human behaviour (including how to cope with stress!) will come in handy for your future endeavours! Wishing you all happiness and success during your next steps. Take care,

A Level Sociology

Thank you very much for all of your hard work, determination and for never failing to make me laugh over the last two years. It has been a fantastic adventure and it has been a pleasure to be a part of your story! Take care and enjoy your next steps - thank you for making my first two years of teaching so incredibly fun!

Chemistry Students

Chemistry states that the more energy you put into a bond, the harder it is to break and we certainly have put a lot of energy into our Chemistry over the last two years. So what does that say about the bond we have developed? You’ve all worked really

hard over the last couple of years, each facing your own challenges along the way and I really wish you all the best as you take your next steps. I’ll leave you with a quote and something to think about as my parting gift, a great philosopher once said “Time flies when you are carried by a Pterodactyl”. Have you worked out what it means yet?

A Level Law

To my Brilliant B Block!

To my Fantastic F Block,

What a joy it has been to have taught such wonderful, bright and occasionally funny students. Your good humour, determination to do well and enthusiasm you bring to each and every lesson will be something that is sorely missed in my room. You are a group like no other – the friendship that was formed amongst you all within the first two weeks was unprecedented! It’s been a blessing and a curse (a curse when you choose to gang up on me for making a mistake on the board). I have looked forward to each lesson we have had together, even when it is wondering what time the ladies who catch the NC7 will arrive, who is going to ask to go to the loo next or what mischief the boys (on either side of the room) are up to. I can’t wait to see what wonderful things you are going to do out in the big wide world as I know how much potential you all have. Thank you all for being such brilliant students!

I’m not sure I’m ready to say goodbye to you all! Here’s to the future and whatever it brings – I sure know you will be able to tackle it with the hard work and the great attitude you brought to every lesson. The humour you have managed to bring to even our morning sessions has been greatly appreciated. I will surely miss counting down the minutes until Ramiro arrives late, Emma’s wild and dramatic stories, and the competition between Isabelle, Eve and Henry to see who can answer the most questions in the lesson. To each and every one of you, you will be sorely missed. What I shan’t miss is all the times you managed to make me go off topic with one of my very own stories! I hope you have enjoyed the lessons we have shared as much as I have.

All the best!

Zoe

Thanks for all the Jammy Dodgers – I’m going to change my stories to ones with Magic Stars in next year!

All the best, Zoe

A Level Law

To my Cracking C Block

Surely it’s not time for us to say goodbye to one another? Suhaib has only just started arriving on time!! I have seriously enjoyed teaching each and every one of you – you have been brilliant. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, and I have been blown away by your motivation, positivity and determination. You have consistently set the bar in terms of what a great class looks like and I am so very sad to see you go. I have thoroughly enjoyed the discussions and the laughs (usually at my expense) that we have all had. I can’t wait to see what wonderful things you are going to do out in the big wide world as I know how much potential you all have. Thank you all for being such brilliant students!

All the best in the future, Zoe

Sport, Health & Early Year

All the best to our Sport, Health and Early Year students. You have experienced an incredible journey, overcoming many challenges along the way. It has been a pleasure having you on board and we are so proud of you all! You have bright and exciting futures ahead of you and we wish you every success.

I hope your time at HNC has been enjoyable, and most importantly enriching and enlightening.

Good luck for everything you do in the future.

This year group, while small in number, have more than made up for it with some forthright opinions (not about the subject, but me) which we will categorise as ‘critical analysis’. It has been fun to work with you all and push you when sometimes you didn’t want to be pushed! We have had some really memorable times and I again apologise to Malaikah and Maya for giving you a public dressing down for missing a lesson, when I was clearly in a bad mood (as advised strongly by the group) after another Town defeat. Year 12 began by me having to persuade a student to pick Media Studies A Level ‘X Factor’ style in HNC reception, and I know that student definitely made the right choice... Thank you for working hard, being genuinely interested and I wish you ALL the best in future. And Harry don’t have a ‘stinker’ in the exams, lad!
