Elm Class Elm Class offers a naturalistic learning environment which involves an informal/semi structured timetable. Children in Elm Class are learning to fall in love with the social world and all activities offer an irresistible opportunity to engage, providing opportunities for social communication. The main focuses for development in Elm Class are; Social Communication including the development of language strategies, Emotional Regulation and Play. Within the SCERTS framework in the area of Social Communication, Elm Class are typically Social Partners learning to use their body language, gestures and facial expressions to communicate and Language Partners who are learning to use words and developing language through speech, signs, pictures and symbol exchange. Within the area of Emotional Regulation, Elm Class are at the behavioural level stage, using motor and sensory motor strategies to regulate their emotions. The key strategies and approaches in Elm Class include; Learning through play, Sensory gross motor, Relaxation, TEACCH, Attention Group, Communication Group, Magic Box and Intensive Interactions.
