BIODIVERSITY
We aimed to:
To increase biodiversity opportunities in school and share our findings with the wider school community.
Re-introduce a bug hotel and create a log pile house
Re-introduce bird houses and introduce bird baths
Create information at home on how to create homes to promote biodiversity at home
Introduce bee friendly plants in school
We made a bird bath out of materials in school due to expire to reduce waste and one of our club members made a bird house at home to use in school and was made from re-purposed timber.

WE HAVE INCORPORATED BEE FRIENDLY PLANTS INTO VARIOUS AREAS AROUND SCHOOL TO PROMOTE BIODIVERSITY

WE NEEDED TO RE-SOIL THE FRONT OF SCHOOL BEFORE SPREADING THE WILDFLOWER SEEDS

THE WILDFLOWER PLANTS ARE GROWING WELL AND SHOULD COME BACK YEARLY NOW
Eco club had a gardening lesson from Mr Yates on planting spring bulbs

The children used a variety of bulbs and planted them around the current trees in school.

WE PLANTED AT LEAST 50 BULBS

WE THEN SHARED OUR TECHNIQUES WITH MEMBERS OF SCHOOL AND SENT THEM HOME WITH OUR KEY TIPS.

WE MADE WILDFLOWER SEED BOMBS

We made a step by step video guide on how to make the wild flower seed bombs to send home for others in our school community to try

We threw the bombs (once they were dry) in an area of school which needed some TLC and where we felt that wildflowers would best grow

We have sent home some tips on how to complete some gardening work at home including how to safely deweed your garden, how to plant spring bulbs and how to make wildflower seed bombs

SCHOOL GROUNDS
We aimed to:
To diversify our eco areas in school and make them as environmentally friendly as possible
Plant new trees on our school grounds
Have eco club members encourage other children to help with planting
Introduce an orchard area, potentially an allotment area.
Share our findings and techniques with the wider school community
We have created an orchard area in school in collaboration with Stockton Borough Council. Our orchard includes a variety of trees including fruit trees.

WE HAVE CREATED AN ALLOTMENT AREA
IN SCHOOL

WE HAVE GROWN BROAD BEANS AND RUNNER BEANS IN THE TYRE ALLOTMENT AREA

Eco club members have shown and encouraged younger children to help with planting around the school grounds

WASTE
We aimed to:
To diversify our methods of recycling in school and reduce our general waste consumption.
Recycle more items than just paper e.g. batteries, crisp packets etc
Collect and redistribute used uniform
Try to reduce food waste
Eco club members to encourage other members of school to litter pick
Eco Club regularly litter pick around the school grounds and have encouraged other children to take part as well.

We are now recycling more than just paper in school! We are recycling batteries, plastics, crisp packets, cans etc. This has massively increased to help reduce land fill waste this year

We regularly collect and redistribute school uniform - keeping a small collection in school for children who may temporarily need it and once a term, showcase lost property and school uniform for parents to collect if needed.

OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS

DE-WEEDED AND TIDIED UP AREAS OF SCHOOL GROUNDS
RE-TURFED BALDING AREAS OF GRASS AROUND SCHOOL

IT TOOK A LOT OF TEAMWORK BUT WE PRODUCED SOME FANTASTIC RESULTS TO A RUN-DOWN PATCH OF THE SCHOOL GROUNDS.

OUR TURF TEAM!

WE TOOK PART IN OUR FIRST WHOLE SCHOOL EVENT - CLEAN AIR DAY 2024

The children created pledge videos and bubbles as well as information posters on what air pollution is and how we can make small changes to help keep our air clean

Even our youngest learners made pledges!
REINTRODUCED TRAVEL TRACKER IN SCHOOL

We completed a variety of eco themed work across school and made a lot of links across the curriculum
