The Bishop Martin Curriculum School Aims The Bishop Martin Curriculum is guided by our 3 core aims, linked to our values:
To understand the awe and wonder of God’s love and aspiration for them to succeed in life To instil in every child a lifelong love of learning that will equip them to succeed in an ever-changing modern world. To encourage them to fully engage in the learning process so that they ‘take ownership’ of their learning.
Our Geography Promise Inspiring and encouraging our children’s curiosity to enable them find out about the world that they live in underpins the Geography work that we do here at Bishop Martin. We believe that Geography helps our children to provoke and answer questions about bot h the natural and human worlds. We understand the importance of encouraging natural curiosity in the children to ena ble them to become inquisitive learners who question the world around them with interest. As a whole school, we explore and compare countries an d culture around the word, for example with whole school themes, language days and linking learning to other sub jects. We strive for the children develop and use subject specific vocabulary that evolves throughout their learning journey through EYFS to KS2. In EYFS, Geography is taught under the curriculum area of ‘Understanding the World’, providing the children t he opportunities to explore and investigate the world around them in the outdoor learning environments. In Key Stage 1 and 2, the children are gi ven a wide range of learning opportunities to enable them to develop a variety of skills within our creative th ematic lessons, where we provide investigative and enquiry based learning opportunities. We encourage the children to ask questions about their enviro nment, both human and physical. At Bishop Martin, we encourage children to develop a greater understandin g of the world and their place in it, with opportunities to explore current environmental issues at both a local and global level.
