Year 1: Phonics Screening Check

Well done, Year 1. You’ve completed your phonics screening check this week. We’re really proud of how hard you have worked – and will continue to work – in learning to read. There’s nothing more important! Outcome shared on end of year reports, parents.

Year 6 Enterprise

Thank you to all the community members getting behind the year 6s sponsorship. Lots of money in the pot!

Afterschool Clubs – low numbers

Club attendance has always been a little hit & miss here as you will be aware. Typically, clubs need 8 pupils, minimum, to operate. We may see over coming weeks, more cancellations and scaling back – unless numbers pick up

School Milk Scheme

More tests for Year 2!

Ok, only a reading paper on Thursday! Earith has been selected by the DFE to trial a new-look KS1 reading paper

Swimming Pool

Do you know your child’s swim day? See link HERE

Lockdown Procedure

A DFE requirement that we practise one every year. This will be next Friday… remember the bees? a useful in-road for discussion if you need to prepare your child. It’s all completed very sensitively.

Earith Primary is part of the Cool Milk scheme and any children over 5 can still enjoy their school milk at a subsidised price – just go to: www.coolmilk.com where you can register and create your own account within minutes. Milk will remain free for your child(ren) up until the age of 5.

Free school meal children (Pupil Premium)

If your child is in receipt of Pupil Premium funding and they would like to have milk each day, please let the school office know. This will be paid for by the school out of the Pupil Premium funding.

Learning Highlights of the Week

Highlight Jeffers:

Jeffers class has had a makeover this week. We are really looking forward to exploring the new layout

Highlight Shireen:

It has been lovely to see the children being so keen to share their prior knowledge in Geography. Over the last few weeks, we have been learning about the poles, the equator and diverse landscapes across the world. The children have been particularly knowledgeable about which animals live on different continents and how they are able to survive in different conditions. They have asked lots of good questions to find out more facts about the equator and to understand how Antarctica can be a desert!

Highlight Riddell:

This week in Riddell Class, we have been investigating the force of friction! We have discovered how friction can be useful (or not), discussed the application of the force for F1 drivers and ice skaters, and conducted a fair test to see which materials reduce or increase friction.

We have also enjoyed learning about the turbulent reigns of Henry VI and Edward IV, and used direct speech to write dialogue for a bear and a moose falling off a bridge!

Highlight Gold:

The highlight this week came during our history lesson, whilst learning about the route to full democracy in Britain. The children showed genuine passion when discussing how only a small percentage of men were able to vote. Not only were they eloquent in their views, the children made excellent links with previously-studied history topics.

This week’s Curriculum Champions are:

Jeffers Class: Lexi, Violet, Oliver, Harrison

Shireen Class: Elsie L, Oliver, Ivy,

Riddell Class: Jamie, Umar, Lleyton, Amelia

Gold Class: Tommy, Anshveer, Gordon
