Transition Days

Children go into their new classes for the last two days of the Academic Year: 21st & 22nd of July. Further information to follow. You already know the class structure & teachers for next year.

Our New Core Values

The story so far. About six ish years ago, children didn’t know the 5Rs. They were reimagined and heavily linked to day-to-day school culture, where they remain.

Rosie & Grace (Now Year 10 & 11) designed the avatars for us – on the computer. They returned on Thursday morning as guests of honour to talk about how the core values have supported them at Secondary School but also as we revealed version 2.0 of our Core Values – reimagined by Abby Hobbs – local illustrator. Thank You so much, Abby.

Over time, you will see our new core values appear throughout school on our signage and also on our website.

However, our old core values still have a special place in our hearts. The impact they have had on our pupils – past & present – is immense, and Rosie & Grace played a huge part of this. On behalf of our school community, thank you Rosie; thank you Grace – your legacy still lives on!

Sponsored Walk

As I write, just back from the Sponsored Walk. Special thanks to our FOES members for providing our geographical clues linked to Earith safety signage – was really informative to look at the village through this lens, this year! We had multiple, positive feedback from members of the community too about your children, from both groups. I hope they sleep well tonight, especially the little ones. If they do, you’re welcome! And thank you, Community. Thank you for supporting FOES to raise these funds and for waving from the sidelines. You’re all such lovely parents and good sports! Photos HERE

Celebrating Eggs @ Earith!

What started as a petition (with a whole load of signatures!) brought about by School Councillor, Evelyn, to ‘bring back school omelettes’, then turned into a school council discussion…

Did the pupils mean omelette or did they mean frittata? Both had been cooked, historically. And, what actually is the difference?

Pupils were informed of the difference and voted across classes to multiple questions. Omelettes were a favourite, with 60 pupils saying they would eat/choose them again!

We think it’s nice that children like eggs, and as an alternative to meat so school council wanted to support this.

Meetings with caterers ensued. Tuesday is now ‘Celebrating Eggs Day @ Earith’ – this has been brought about by pupil voice.

See the special, one-off menu: no curry or mac cheese on this day, but pupils can still have sandwich box or jacket potato if they don’t fancy the omelette or frittata.

We will see the level of interest this gets; school councillors will get feedback from the children on special cards from our caterers and we will then consider whether omelettes could be a more permanent feature of the menu.

Thank You school councillors; thank you class council; thank you, Evelyn – agents of change!

Bikeability

Well done Bikeability kids! Instructors commented on your positive manners but also the progress you made throughout the sessions. Just like above (Sponsored Walk) some key activities this week to support wider safeguarding for our pupils in and around the village. Timely, in the build-up to the Summer Break – I hope it helps.

Book Club

Next Friday, 11th July, will be the final book club session for this academic year. If your child is saving up for a book you may want to make sure that they’ve got enough money to take it home. It’s also a good opportunity to buy a book outright at a great price to encourage their reading over the summer. Book Club has sold an amazing number of books this year, thank you for your support.

Reminder: Serious Safeguarding: Risk of falling trees

Do not access field. Do not access equipment. Do not go in the woodlands before or after school, parents, children, toddlers.

Antony Highlights:

Children in Antony’s class loved The Blue Balloon, relating it to their own experiences of setting up birthdays and preparing for surprise parties. They showed great imagination as they considered what strange and wonderful powers their own balloon might have. The birthday theme continued for the rest of the week as we celebrated Sid's 5th birthday. We baked cakes, iced biscuits and made him cards

Wenzel Highlights:

This week in English, Wenzel Class have started their penultimate book of the year: A House that Once Was. They've studied photographs of houses that are old, new and in disrepair, using descriptive and comparative language as well as asking questions. Next week, they are excited to be writing their own stories about who might have lived in the old house and where they could be now.

Larwood Highlights:

Music was a highlight in Larwood Class as the children continued their learning about samba. They recalled the names of some of the instruments learnt last week and enthusiastically joined in with the different syncopated rhythms. There was also a lovely moment where some children recalled a previous music topic - about the cherry blossom season in Japan - when learning about that country and seeing photos of the tress in bloom in Kyoto in Geography! Super to see them spotting connections across the curriculum subjects.

Rauf Highlights:

Rauf Class has thoroughly enjoyed crafting spooky stories this week. Inspired by a short animation clip, the children let their imaginations run wild and produced some chillingly creative narratives. It was fantastic to see them using vivid sensory language, clever plot twists and thoughtful predictions to keep their readers on edge. Well done Rauf Class for showing such creativity within your story-writing.
