Maths:

Next term in Year 5 Maths, we'll delve deeper into our study of decimals, focusing on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing them to enhance our skills and confidence.

Year 5 – Summer 2

Following this, we'll explore the intriguing world of negative numbers, learning how to work with values below zero through practical examples that make the concept relatable.

English:

Our journey will then lead us to converting units of measurement. We'll practice converting between different units for length, mass, and capacity, ensuring we understand how to make accurate conversions. Additionally, we'll explore the concept of volume, learning how to measure and calculate the space that objects occupy.

For the next half term, we will be exploring different types of poetry. We will be identifying language and structural features and learning the appropriate skills needed to write and recite a successful poem. We will continue this genre within our whole class reading lessons, enjoying a range of various poems written in many different styles.

Geography : In our unit entitled, ‘What is Life Like in the Alps’ we will learn the following: Locate the Alps on a world map and identify and label the eight countries they spread through.

Locate three physical and three human characteristics in the Alps. Research and describe the physical and human features of Innsbruck. Use a variety of data collection methods including completing a questionnaire, mapping their route and recording their findings in sketches or photographs. Compare the human and physical geography of their local area and Innsbruck.

Describe at least four of the key aspects of the human and physical geography of the Alps to answer the enquiry question, ‘What is life like in the Alps?’

PE: During their PE lessons this halfterm, the children will either be completing a series of striking and fielding games, such as cricket and rounders, with their teachers. In their WLSP classes, the children will be continue to receive lessons related to Invasion games. This is where the children learn how to apply attacking and defending skills in a range of team games.

PSHE: This half term, the children will have some lessons about ’The Working World’

D.T: In D.T the children will be looking at Electrical systems: Doodlers Investigating an existing motorised product and problem-solving to understand its construction before developing their own.

Science: This half term we will have a visiting Planetarium, learn about the life cycles of humans and animals and even write fact files about famous scientists such as David Attenborough And Jane Goodall.

Spanish: ¿Tienes una mascota? / Do you have a pet?

• Know the nouns and indefinite articles for 8 common pets and ask somebody if they have a pet and give an answer back.

Music: Reflect and rewind-In this final half term, we will be recapping the key terms and knowledge learnt throughout the year. We will then develop our keyboard skills with playing chords and playing songs with chords and composing music for the keyboard.

• Say in Spanish what pet we have/do not have and give our pet’s name.

• Start to use the simple conjunctions 'y' (and) and 'pero' (but) to make complex and interesting sentences.
