History: Once again, the children will delve into the realms of ‘Ancient Greece,’ where they will begin to investigate what impact Ancient Greeks have had on society today, while exploring how significant their legacy is. They will explore Greek architecture, art & theatre, before exploring where the Olympics originated from. The children will research ‘Archimedes’ and how his work/research has influenced life as we know.

English: Over the next half term, the children will attempt to write their own Greek Myth. They will be using their descriptive writing last half term to help with their setting and mythical creatures involved in their myth. There will be a particular focus in our SPAG lessons on how/when to use a comma when writing fronted adverbials, relative clauses and using commas correctly in a list. We will also focus on including speech to advance the action in a narrative and how to use speech to convey the character. We will continue to read myths from Usborne's Book of Greek Myths.

PE: Throughout their PE sessions this half term, the children will engage in a dynamic mix of activities. They will alternate between skilful Striking and Fielding sessions and invigorating sessions of Invasion Games led by the WLSP coaches alongside their class teacher.

R.E: Next term, we will explore Green religion—how faith and environmentalism intersect. We’ll discuss why religious communities should take greater responsibility for the Earth and how spiritual beliefs can inspire action. Looking at figures like Greta Thunberg, we’ll examine the role of activism in promoting a more sustainable future,

PSHE: In PSHE, the children will be discussing 'The Working World’. The module supports their understanding of the world around them. They will gain an understanding of how they can contribute to their communities now and in the future. Students will explore many areas including enterprise skills, budgeting, and price comparisons.

Music: Keyboard skills. Children will be listening to songs built on 3 chords. Classes will learn how to play chords and bass notes and then apply that knowledge to learning how to play Let It Be by the Beatles.

Year 5 – Summer 1

Spanish: En la cafeteria / At the café:

• Recall from memory a wider range of nouns and indefinite articles/determiners for common foods, snacks and drinks in a typical Spanish cafetería, improving our cultural knowledge of Spain.

• Understand better how to make nouns plural in Spanish and order in Spanish what we would like to eat and drink in a role-play.

Art: Next half term, we will explore architecture through observational drawing, printmaking, and design.

Studying Hundertwasser’s work, we’ll analyse architectural elements and create our own meaningful monuments, developing composition and design skills.

Science: During Summer 1, the children will explore the differences in the life cycles of a mammal, an amphibian, an insect and a bird, before exploring the human life cycle and begin to describe the life process of reproduction! We will maintain our captivating observational study of our caterpillars, meticulously documenting and investigating the remarkable transformation into butterflies. This enriching topic builds upon the children's prior learning from last term, inspired by the renowned naturalists and animal behaviourists, David Attenborough and Jane Goodall.
