English:
This term, we will explore Liverpool Writers, particularly through Frank Cottrell Boyce's ‘The Wonder Brothers’. We will write biographies and create poetry inspired by Roger McGough, linking our reading to Liverpool’s architecture.

Year 4 Summer Half-term 1
History:
We will explore Liverpool's evolution, including Stone Age footprints, the ‘Three Graces’, slavery, World War II's impact, and the cultural significance of music, particularly the Beatles and Mersey Beat.

Maths: Decimals
This half term, children will continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of decimals, focusing on making wholes with tenths and hundredths, as well as partitioning and comparing decimals flexibly.
PE:
Next half term, we are fortunate to host the Chance to Shine project, enhancing Year Four pupils' cricket skills, alongside sessions on invasion games delivered by West Lancashire Sports coaches.
Science: States of Matter
Geography:
This area of the curriculum will be covered in Summer 2.
In this unit, we will compare and group materials as solids, liquids, or gases, explore their properties, examine state changes through heating and cooling, and study evaporation and condensation within the water cycle.
Computing: This area of the curriculum is covered in Summer 2.
PSHE: The Working World and Online Safety
RE: How does family life and festivals show what matters to Jewish people?
This term, we will explore the significance of celebrations in Jewish culture, particularly focusing on Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Pesach.
We will identify ways to support those who care for us, explore positive contributions to our communities, discuss future job skills, and continue our focus on internet safety and staying safe online.
Year 4 Summer Half-term 1
Art & Design and Design Technology: Drawing – Power Prints
During art lessons, we will learn to create 3D effects through shading and utilise various tools and techniques to develop finished drawings featuring detail, contrast, and pattern based on original compositions.
Design Technology – This area of the curriculum will be covered in Summer 2.

Spanish: La fecha / The Date
During Spanish lessons, children will learn to:
• Recognise and recall the seven days of the week and the twelve months of the year in Spanish.
• Ask someone when their birthday is and say when their own birthday is in Spanish.
Music:
The Beatles
During this half term, Year 4 will focus on The Beatles, learning to sing and play their well-known songs, while two classes will explore the clarinet or brass instruments with Sefton tutors.
