English:
In English we will be reading ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl. We will be creating an alternative trick that the Twits could play on each other, before writing all about it using all the skills we have been working on this year, for example expanded noun phrases, adverbs and sentence structure. After this, we will then be writing a set of instructions to make a ‘deliciously horrible’ meal that the Twits could eat.
Science:
In Science we will be spending the half term consolidating on our learning from across the year. We will revisit minibeast habitats to discover if the creatures we find are different to our findings in Autumn and Spring. The children will further develop their understanding by ‘Working Scientifically’ and continue to apply their scientific understanding to a range of enquiry style questions.

Maths:
In Maths this half term, we will start by learning Time. We will be focusing on the language of o’clock, half past, quarter to and past. We will also be telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes. After this, we will be focusing on Statistics. The children will learning to draw and interpret tally charts, tables, block diagrams and pictograms. Finally we will focus on Position and Direction. The children will be learning the language of position and be able to describe movement and turns.



Year 2 – Summer 2
Design Technology:
In DT this half term we will be exploring a balanced diet. Through their exploration of what makes a balanced diet, children will taste food combinations of different food groups aiming to find the perfect, healthy mix in an exciting, delicious wrap.


PE: Invasion games with WLSP: Pupils will take part in simple games involving individual and co-operative play. They will make quick decisions based on movement of the ball into space and choice of skill execution. Striking/
Fielding
with class
teacher: Pupils develop the skill of tracking and retrieving a ball, and turning to aim at a target. These skills are useful in many striking and fielding games.
History:
In History, we will begin our unit by developing our knowledge of what makes a significant, influential person.
We will learn about three famous nurses from the past: Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell before comparing their interesting lives and their contribution to modern day medicine.



PSHE
In PSHE, we will be learning all about fire safety. We will end the year by looking at life as a Year 3 child. We will be supporting the children with their transition into Year 3.

Spanish: Las
minibestias / Minibeasts:
- Recognise and recall 10 minibeasts in Spanish (bee, caterpillar, worm, butterfly, snail, hedgehog, ant, spider, frog, ladybird).
- Recall greetings more easily in Spanish.


Music: Carnival of the Animals – In this final half term we will be reading the story of the Carnival of the animals and listening to the music before we go on our trip to Blackpool Zoo. We will also use instruments to compose music to accompany some of our favourite zoo animals.
RE:
Our key question this half term is a continuation of last term: Who is a Muslim and what do they believe? We will look what they believe about their God, who is the prophet Muhammad and why he is important and how and why they pray and worship at a mosque.
