English:

In English, this half term, our quality text will be ‘The Bog Baby’. We will be creating story maps, collecting adventurous adjectives, writing descriptive sentences about the story and making a ‘Missing’ poster. Our focus will be on handwriting, presentation and sentence structure.

Science:

Our Science unit this half term is animals and their habitats. We will explore the differences between things that are ‘living’, ‘dead’ and things that have ‘never been alive’. We will also be learning about habitats and describe how different habitats provide for basic needs of animals and plants, and how they depend on each other.

Maths:

In Maths this half term, we will be focusing on Place Value and deepening our understanding of numbers. We will consolidate, and build on concepts introduced in Year 1, including counting, ordering numbers, comparing numbers, and numbers as words.

Year 2 : Autumn 1

Design Technology:

We will be following the process of ‘design’, ‘make’ and ‘evaluate’ to make our own structure of a chair. We will be looking at ways to make our structures ‘stable’ and ‘strong’. We will also be focusing on materials that we can use both natural and man-made.

PE:

In PE, alongside the teachers, West Lancashire Sports Partnership (WSLP) will be teaching Gymnastics where children will develop their balance, agility and coordination skills. We will also be learning about Athletics where we will develop the children’s fundamental skills such as running, jumping and throwing.

PSHE

In our school, we follow the 1 decision scheme to teach our PSHE. Through PSHE, we see the children develop and grow –building positive relationships with their peers. This half term we will focus on feelings and emotions, including worry.

Spanish:

The children will be learning Los saludos /

Greetings:

They will learn to say ‘hello’ (formally and informally), say their name, ask how somebody is feeling and give a reply and say ‘goodbye’ and ‘see you soon’.

Geography:

We will be introducing children to the basic concept of climate zones and mapping out hot and cold places globally. Children compare features in the North and South poles and Kenya as well as the local area. They will learn the four compass points and the names and location of the seven continents.

RE:

Our key question is: What can we learn from sacred books? The children will learn how religious books such as the Torah, the Bible and the Qur’an contain stories which are special to the people who read them.

Music:

In Music our focus is pitch. Children will explore their voices and begin to learn to play simple songs on the recorder and reading musical notation.

Computing:

The children will be exploring what a computer is by identifying and learning how inputs and outputs work and how computers are used in the wider world.
