Maths: During our Maths lessons this half-term, the children will start by furthering their understanding of multiplication and division. Within this topic, the children will be exploring the concept of: multiples, factors, prime numbers, square & cube numbers and practise multiplying/dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000! The children will then begin to look at equivalent and improper fractions, before attempting to order, compare and convert! Science: In Science this half term we will be starting our new topic Earth and Space. We will be learning all about spherical bodies, the movement of the moon and features of the planets. We will learn all about the famous Galileo Galilei, work scientifically pattern seeking and then investigate day and night.

Year 5 – Autumn 2 ‘Blast Off!’

English: This half term, we will be using a quality text called, 'Where Once We Stood'. It is all about the moon landings between 1969 and 1972. From this, they will produce a number of pieces of writing, including: an exploration narrative, a formal report, some poetry, a setting description, a character study and some short dialogue. We will also be including all of the elements of grammar that are required in Year 5. A focus on spelling and handwriting will also be included in our English provision.

PSHE: During this half term, the children will be looking at keeping safe and healthy. They will discuss how to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating the correct food and exercising regularly. They will also look at mental health and keeping their minds healthy. The children will discuss peer pressure and identify the best resolutions when faced with challenging scenarios.
